Most of us here have Tinnitus, we all react differently to the Drugs. Some Medicines work better for us and not for others. I am trying to collect some research data, to also help myself, as I have pretty bad Tinnitus & to try some different Medicines that might work for me. There is a lot of info out there, but, can you also Share your Stories in a Reply here, if others also add to it, it will also be in one place for easier reading & replies.

If you have Tinnitus, Please describe a short post on it in a reply to this post, Hearing Loss, Loudness and Pitch if known & if it comes & goes & the reality of it. Then, can you follow this up with what Medicines your taking that worked for you, which is probably a reduction in the noise or attention to it as in the feeling of calming it down. If you have also tried Medicines that didn't work & the tinnitus went louder or you had bad reactions to some medicines, can you also note the details for that & the issues you experienced.

If you are wearing Hearing Aids to mask out the Tinnitus, but, your Hearing Loss is Minimal, have the Hearing Aids helped much in reducing the Tinnitus or Brain Activity focussing on it, after a few months of wearing them ?.

My Tinnitus started at 18 Years old, from a one time exposure at a Night Club, it was a Ring Tone, around 6,500-8,000hz in both ears, but, it was very quiet, I could only here it, when trying to sleep. My Tinnitus has been stable for many years, I have been careful to avoid loud noises & the last time I went to a loud club of pub was around 30 Years old, then around 46-47 Years Old, it went up a little bit each time and never went down, then it went up again a few months ago, to the point I was starting to notice it and everyday sounds was not masking it out.

In December, it went up a lot more, as from January, I am now 50 Years old, I still had the original ring tone at about 6,500hz to 8,000hz which was quite a bit louder, in the daytime, the TV would not mask it out anymore, where as before, it would. I can even hear it in the garden or anywhere sort of quiet or walking where 'Noisy' traffic is, on top of this, I also had a very loud hissing noise, this is in the 12,000-14,000hz range, which is very hard to mask out, so when relaxing or trying to watch the TV, I can hear it. I have had a Hearing Test at Specsavers and online and my hearing comes back as good.

I have had a CT scan which come back normal, the doctors want to do a MRI scan, but, I can't have one at the moment, as I need more reasons for it!.

I then had a hearing test at a private clinic and I have some hearing loss and damage or natural aging and wear & tear, but, nothing really significant or major, but, my brain is picking it up and giving me the tinnitus, which is incredibly annoying. Whilst my hearing is still sort of good, I am trying some hearing aids and using a tinnitus masking at 12,000hz as part of a tinnitus treatment plan, to see after a few weeks if it will make a difference to the noise level or my brain paying attention to it.

My Blood Pressure has been pretty high, so I am on Ramipril 10mg. I am also taking Mirtazapine 30mg, which helps me sleep a bit better, although I might be getting used to it and it is wearing off and it may calm my brain down a little bit, but, the tinnitus is the same loudness. I did try Duloxetine 30mg, which sent my brain into paranoia with mental health thoughts and the tinnitus was screaming away a lot louder, but, my blood pressure was really high at 190-200. When I was taking Duloxetine, I could feel like cold and hot fluid running around my brain and body and like hallucinations & really bad thoughts, so I stopped taking it.

I think my brain is hyper active, so hopefully, I can try some new Medicines that may calm the tinnitus down or my brain trying to focus on it, so it isn't as bad as before. Can you also share your stories and what helps if anything is.

Update - 24-4-2024 - Doctor has given me some Amlodipine 5mg tablets to try and get my blood pressure down, in-case that is aggravating the Tinnitus, as I still feel I have a lot of pressure around and behind the ears, even when trying to relax and my blood pressure is still pretty high, even taking Ramipril 10mg also. I have also been given some Betahistine 16mg tablets, to see if that will calm down my brain & the Tinnitus noise level, I will update in a few weeks, if Betahistine makes any difference or not.

Is anyone else taking Betahistine & noticing the Tinnitus noise level is quieter ?.

Thx, in Advance for the Replies.

Sorry to hear about your problems - which sound similar to my own. I cannot make any connection with COVID vaccines and am about to take my seventh or eighth. Anxiety may be a route cause, perhaps. The only thing that helps my T is alcohol......we treated ourselves to drinks followed by lunch out with wine last Friday and I was T-free, completely, until Sunday morning when it returned with a vengeance. Cannot understand why there seems to be so little actual knowledge about this awful, debilitating illness!

Yes. Sharing stories. There's merit in that.

I've said before that Tinnitus is too much of an umbrella term. No more descriptive of the thing than say 'headache' and what must be the three figure causes and effects involved with that.

Slow that tinnitus research appears to be, I wonder if any serious attempt has ever been made to classify possible effects and the causes from it. So each of us will have not just tinnitus, but an actuality called something something tinnitus.

PhD stuff if aspiring scientists up for some of that are reading this...

my tinnitus started about sixty years ago in my mid-late teens, and I considered it amongst all the many issues that confront teenagers - just one among many.

It is masked by the sound of an airplane or coach (from the inside) and is louder for a few days when that noise ceases. I can hear the T above the noise travelling in a car at 70.

It’s not otherwise affected by anything.
