Support from recent noxacusis setback please.

Hello to all on here,

I am struggling emotionally with a recent noxacusis setback from what I believe to be down to bass vibrations from the music speakers in a local restaurant and just wondered if anyone could offer some words of support or advice.

I have tried a few times seeking professional help that have only ended with no treatment offered. As you can imagine, this has been emotionally draining.

I started with tinnitus in 2016 and this developed in to dull trigeminal pain with sound. I have accommodated my lifestyle for my condition and do not go to loud places anymore/ not worn earphones etc. since 2016.

I went to a restaurant on Saturday 2nd March with friends. We were there for 1 hour and 40mins max and my decibel reader on my phone showed the noise level to be moderate. I had my foam earplugs in. At one point in the evening, I noticed I could feel bass vibrations through my body for a couple of moments but then it passed and I continued with my meal and drinks. The speaker was not close to us. The next morning I was fine but there was a delayed response and got trigeminal nerve pain late in the afternoon on my left side. No noticeable increase to my tinnitus volume, just the sudden dull pain.

I have been continuing as I would in life but just having time to rest my ears at home without ear plugs. However, now my pain threshold has dropped significantly from Monday and getting lingering nerve pain to household sounds e.g. the tap/microwave/noise from outside with open window and it feels tender. Also both ears feel a mild burn in the ear holes. Again, no tinnitus increase.

I can only put down that the bass vibrations and sound through bone conduction has caused this. I am just at a loss and wondering how best to aid my recovery if you had any words to offer.

I have been on sick leave for two days from work and just in an unfit mental health state right now.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and wishing you all the best.

because of your post I’ve been reading up a little about trigeminal neuralgia. I’ve a tiny little experience of this, with shooting pains in the side of the head, but they go. I’d have said a bit of rest and recuperation and then back to normal activity , but maybe someone here may have different advice

Thank you Happyrosie for replying and looking into trigeminal nerve pain in particular to offer support. That is very kind.

Hello Fleece_Hugs . Can really only offer my sympathy with this set-back you’ve had especially as you are so careful with preventative measures. Any setback is so stressful which just adds to our misery. All I can say is if the pain/burning doesn’t subside then perhaps you should speak to your GP as although tinnitus is debilitating, the fact that yours hasn’t increased could mean that something else is going on. Sending hugs and hope there is improvement soon x

Thank you Beesmac for your sympathy and well wishes. More days of quiet and rest for me hopefully to see some improvement. Wishing you well.
