Tinnitus and TMJ

Hi all,

Following on from my previous post a few weeks back, I am still really struggling. As I mentioned I've had T since 2007. It has for the most part been manageable but I've had a few very, very loud spikes since 2020, which have put me in a very darl place when they happened. Normally they pass after a 2-3 weeks and go back to not thinking about it much. It's now been more than two months where I haven't able to tune it out, and it's so loud. The odd, rare good day I have noticed it a little less, but still constant.

It's like a jet engine right now :(

Anyway, getting to the point. of this particular post. I apparently do have a TMJ disorder, how that's different to actual TMJ I don't know. But either way I am going to get it looked into. Perhaps as I'm getting older the jaw is getting worse. My T has ramped up so much that if it's something physical this time which could be solved that would be obviously be good. I already have a mouthguard but perhaps I need something more specific. If anyone can recommend a good dentist or specialist for treatment of TMJ that would be great. Preferably in Yorkshire area but I am willing to travel!

Other than that, please feel free to share positive stories of you dealing and overcoming when it's really, really bad.

Thank you so much.

Karlos. I hope to be in a position shortly to advise on bluetooth and wireless headphones to mask the sound with radio, CD and other. All this tech is new to me, an item on order, but when that's in I'm assured it will be up and running in no time. I'm especially interested in how loud the headphones can be operated at.

Dentist fave me tmj exercises and suggested a miuthguard for nights..made to measure.

Hi Karlos. I got TMD after a recent op, the position my face/head was in had caused it. TMJ is the joint. TMD is the dysfunction of that joint. I have a mouth guard at night and exercises to do that a maxillo facial surgeon gave me. You can get them on YouTube too. Hope this helps. It doesn’t cure T though. It may lessen symptoms if you are lucky.
