Last place I thought to look

My audiologist found this the other day. It's a dome from the end of a hearing aid; from ones I stopped wearing at least two years ago.Sadly no improvement to my tinnitus or hearing. As a matter of fact, it was in my better ear.

Yep. Crazy!!! I must have blindly (routinely) taken my hearing aid out. I got new hearing aids which have clear domes, that I've had for about 2 years or so.

I've twice realised my HA has come out of my ear without a dome attached. The first time I was very new to it, and immediately felt panic, but shoved the aid back in and it picked the dome right up. The second was quite recently and I could feel the edge of the dome and was able to tweezer it out. I am surprised you didn't notice it was missing if not when you took it out, the next day when you put them back in. But you probably thought it had fallen off. Sorry it didn't help with the tinnitus.

I've rarely wore them regularly, so it could have been a week or two.

I've given up completely on my new ones and haven't worn them for months now.

can i ask, what was the reason for not wearing the hearing aids

I just couldn't adjust to them. In fact, they generally made my hearing worse. I could hear more mumbling and slightly louder.

I tried hearing aids 2 years ago ( for just a few days) and when i took them out my T was ballistic and i went through a very traumatic time for about 2 or 3 weeks of very little sleep, huge daytime fatigue and appetite and weight loss. I just could not use them

I did get other hearing aids (NHS) with a few e tea features. I may try them again. Over the last few days, since the removed the dome, I've notice I'm not as sensitive to sound and this was the main problem.

It can take time to adjust.

All the best.

Wasn't exactly the outcome I was expecting. A credit to her for being thorough. She said she saw black specks, which I suspect may have been the plastic disintegrating.

I've recently had a CT scan too and MRI, thought the MRI would have only highlighted any tissue damaged distorted tissue (as I understand).
