Propranolol

Hi,everyone I’m new to this forum and would like any information I can get.I started with tinnitus last November, the day after having a panic attack, due to health anxiety.I suffered with anxiety symptoms before my tinnitus started and they seem to have gone now. I am due to go to see my doctor this week, who has said there is no cure for tinnitus but asked about my anxiety symptoms.

She has suggested I try propranolol for my anxiety, but my anxiety is only there due to my tinnitus.I don’t get any symptoms at the minute like I did before, weird sensations, panic attacks, sweaty palms, etc.

If there is no cure for tinnitus,is the propranolol likely to help with it?

do u have high blood pressure due to the anxiety - this is probably why they gave u this med? You could give it a try and see how it goes - if yr anxiety is same or T increases then u could stop this

Hi,I was recently given amlodipine for high blood pressure and atorvastatin for cholesterol.I haven’t been given the propranolol yet,it’s just a suggestion. The problem is,taking new medication and getting side effects, one doesn’t know which tablet is causing it. I suppose what I mean is if to not going to help my tinnitus then is there any need for it. Thanks.

mmm well - so is the Proprnl instead of Amlodipine ? coz both of these reduce BP ( in differeent ways) - wouldnt think u could take both at same time, but the GP would know this better than me. The Proprnl reduces the heart rate / pressure and calms the nervous system more than Amlodpn therefore can reduce anxiety and therefore help the T

check online for interactions between the A + P

Well until I go to the doctors later this week, I will find out. From the telephone call I understood it to be both, perhaps not.Thanks.

When my T first started I was in a state of fight/flight & extremely anxious caused by the T. My GP prescribed Propranolol as I felt my heart was racing although I did not have high BP. Personally I felt it helped me, I had no side effects. As I learned to try & relax & cope & accept my T my feelings of anxiety calmed down. I then reduced my dose of Propranolol until I no longer took it. Everyone is different but it helped me get through a difficult time. I was also prescribed an anti depressant which I took for 2 days & stopped due to an increase in my T.

Yes I am on that statin. So did you do anything about it or just stay on it?

I refused to take anymore . Am trying a vegan diet to see if I can get my cholesterol down without meds. Sadly I didn’t read the side effects of Atorvastatin .Apparently 1 in 100 is uncommon . Guess I’m just unlucky .

I take it for tremors 10mg up to 3 times daily but I don't find it helps reduce them much. It doesn't seem to affect my PT. Is it Tinnitus or Pulsatile Tinnitus you have? Main thing is to get it checked out then you'll know if there's nothing serious to worry about which should reduce your anxiety. One of the main issues I have with my PT is lack of sleep which leads to tiredness and everything being out of whack and I guess anxiety.

hi Lilia. Propelol helps you stay calm ? For me that’s been good to have in my tool box. I only take one when desperate. Anxiety is the elephant in the room for me and has caused me so much grief over the years. T is the latest of a long line of problems for me. If I’m anxious it feeds my T so I’ve cut out alcohol and avoid ANY vaccinations so you keep a pure head to deal with the reality of this dibilitating nuisance which is Tinnitus. All the best
