Firstly, Please don't worry. It's very rare. I'm deaf in one ear and I don't have cancer . Secondly, you're still in the early stages of T . It's going to fluctuate. You could look on the bright side. You now only have T in one ear . That's a bonus.
Thx man
Tinnitus in one ear, in very rare situations, might be a sign of a condition called an Acoustic Neuroma. This is a benign tumour which presses against the auditory nerve and can, many years in the future, potentially cause single-sided hearing loss.
So, that's a very rare, non-life threatening and treatable issue which has it's own charity devoted to it - BANA UK: bana-uk.com/
I would personally focus on what DogLover 1973 has suggested to you - their tinnitus isn't related to cancer, but to hearing loss. Which is something that we all experience, to some extent.
Equally, what SurreyCCCfan says is right on the money. When tinnitus is new, we look for explanations (very understandably) and come across potential causes which can scare us half to death given half the chance. Getting a thorough series of tests can rule out most of the very rare causes almost immediately and give you far more concrete information than browsing online will do.
Hi,
It is natural for us to worry when we first get T. As part of this worry it is easy to fall into rumination and unhelpful thoughts like catastrophising. I found one of the best ways to reduce these type of unhelpful thoughts it to ensure I had a thorough medical diagnosis with audiology and ENT (incl. MRI) to ensure nothing sinister was wrong when I got my T.
In regards to research this is unlikely to give you a specific answer to your T, as research models are based on the data inputs they require for their specific research approach. I would encourage you to ensure you have had a good clinical review of your T to put your mind at rest.
Hope this helps in some small way. Stay safe
Mine is one sided. Had an MRI this summer - no abnormalities found. My ENT specialist said there are 147 causes of T, so it's not necessarily cancer.
I too have one sided tinnitus. Plus pulsatile tinnitus. CT scan showed nothing untoward
You really need to calm down and try to stop panicking. From what you post it seems as though professional help/therapy may help you. While it's a lot to begin to get to grips with, we all do at some point. One sided tinnitus and deafness is not unusual. In the early stages of this things change frequently but should eventually stabilise to a greater or lesser extent. The changes that happen are not a cause for panic. An MRI will rule out a tumour, so get yourself referred for one. If you can afford to go privately it might be worth it for your peace of mind.
