Hi

I’ve just received my mri scan results

The radiologist has found a small swelling on the nerves of the hearing and balance called vestibular schwannoa and has noted this is very small at 3mm in size . It’s a benign tumour which is causing my T

The next step is taking my scan to a meeting where they discuss such cases and invite me for a ENT clinic and after will be scanned every year

Has any other members been diagnosed with this tumour . I’m pleased now I know the cause of my T

If you don’t get many replies here - it’s rare so you might not - have a look on the NHS website where there is detailed information. The spelling is schwannoma

Hi Genesis2022 Sorry to hear your news even though it's only a small AN. There's a charity BANA if you want to find out more . All the best.

At least they found something 👏👏My scan is on Wednesday and I'm having contrast ie I'm being injected with iodine. Did you have this?

Hi turbo trace On my initial scan which was just over 2 weeks ago I didn’t receive an injection ,but according to my report letter the next scan that I will have, a contrast dye will be injected through the vein to better define the tumour. After that it I will be receiving scan for a few years

Good luck

Good morning . My niece who is 63 has had a vestibula schwannoma for the last 4 years - she awoke one morning and realised she couldn’t hear properly. Then the tinnitus started. After preliminary research through the internet she suspected the cause so privately sought the opinion of a specialist and an MRI confirmed her suspicions. I am not sure of the size of her’s but she has an MRI each year to determine any change. To date her Schwanomma has increased by less than a hair’s width and she has been told that it is to be left alone and monitored. Apparently these tumours are usually benign.

Like the majority of us on here she has had to come to terms with the hearing loss and tinnitus which has been quite hard for her as she is a Lecturer and runs her own company on Health and Safety but she is coping very well. xx

Thank you for the reassurance and pleased that the tumour is slow growing and benign.Good luck to your niece

Benign may be only a relative term if it has a significant impact on your tinnitus management. Can such tumors be surgically removed ?

It's benign in that it doesn't spread to other parts of the body. There are three options depending on the size. Yearly scans or radiotherapy or surgery. Surgery is a last resort .

I am not sure how relevant this is but I am a similar age to you and have had mild T for as long as I can remember. Just a month or so ago I noticed it had become more penetrative in the left ear. I had wax removed from the right ear but there was none in the left but they did report a small growth in the left ear. My GP took a look and agreed so I am off to the ENT but I suppose it will be months for an appointment. I hope its removal might help. Good luck with your growth.
