Evening Tinnitus Noise

Have been suffering Tinnitus for about 2 months now and most things I try to help the situation do not seem to work. I have good hearing but have been using hearing aids with masking but think it may have made the situation worse. Problem now is I can live with noise during daytime but the last couple of evenings have been extremely noisy, any suggestions.....

There is quite a bit of information specifically about masking and hearing aids on the British Tinnitus Association website

Hi Hidden It takes a little while to get used to tinnitus when it's new. It's often easier to live with it by day because there's more activity & noise around you. When you start to slow down in the evenings and especially at night it's more noticeable. Having low background sounds - like the tv or radio can help. Or music or natural sounds. Whatever you prefer . It's still early days for you. Hopefully the T will settle. Above all try & relax - if possible.

I have a radio with a timer by my bed, I set the timer for 30 minutes (once I am in the bed) and listen to the radio, I usually fall asleep within the 30 minutes. Lately, I have been turning the radio off after 5 or 10 minutes as the sound of the radio irritates me more than the sound of my tinnitus 🙂.

Hi picTob2 I’m also a newbie to T I’ve had it for 3 months.just started from nowhere one morning back in January . I’ve found that a sound pillow helps with my T at nite and if it’s too bad I wear a head band with speakers playing white noises like rain ,fan ,bird's,sea and water running noises etc same goes for the sound pillow both from Amazon My hearing is fine after I seen a audiologist but not tried a earring aid

I find it’s tolerable throughout the day but the masking during the nite is a must .I’m also male and 68 .it’s definitely ruined my life but hope it with be less noticeable as time goes by

Good luck

Really sorry to hear that you’ve been having such problems for me night time is always the worst. I find the best thing I have is my sound pillow playing rain which I’ve gotten used to now to help me get to sleep. If I wake in the night that is not a good time as I’ve usually had enough sleep to make it hard to go back to sleep with my T. Again in a situation like this my sound pillow is better than nothing. For me one of the biggest single problems of my T is stress levels. I find this very difficult to manage but if at all possible reducing amount of stress especially in the evening is one of the most helpful things I’ve found. If anybody finds out a way of doing this please let me know :-)Very best and sorry not to be more helpful.

Do take care and be kind to yourself as this condition is far from easy.

Hi sorry you are suffering at the moment it's harder at night when everything is so quiet and you just want to sleep. I use a yoga nidra technique. You can find these for free on you tube. I tried a few before I found one I liked as others have suggested breathing techniques and meditation can help. There are apps aswell as you tube. It's trial and error until you find something that suits you. Relaxing about your situation is key to dealing with it so anything that relaxes you at night will help. We are all different and it may take some time to adjust and find what helps take care
