Hi, I'm interested in getting in touch with others who have the 'chirruping crickets' phenomenon. I've had 'normal' ringing in the ears (left one only) for maybe 15 years but 4 years ago developed intermittent chirruping which has for the last 4 months become more or less continuous. Anyone in the same boat, and what's your coping strategy?

Hello...Yes I have also had this mostly in left ear. It's usually at night and doesn't last long. Strangely, I don't mind it but probably would if it were constant. As with all of these strange ear noises, the more we focus the worse it seems, but hard not to. I try and imagine that the crickets are outside, that I'm in a hot country, and then I can ignore it or actually find it quite pleasant. Mental gymnastics!
Hi, thanks for your message. As it's constant but irregular I find it quite difficult to ignore but, as you say, I suppose the trick is to make my crickets my friends - mental gymnastics as you say. The fact is that unless someone comes up with the miracle cure they'll stop when I do so I'd better get used to them!
Not sure how similar this might be. Had tinnitus for a long time, but in recent years as a sort of distant high pitched birdsong - multiple birds, in fact a whole aviary! Both ears. Sometimes intrusive, usually very background, but often oddly enjoyable. By focusing on it I can influence the sounds a bit, but I guess that’s not really advisable. Best to ignore, or appreciate. It could be a lot worse …
