Hello deltec. Have you thought about phoning the British Tinnitus Association? They are on 0800 018 0527 Monday to Friday between 9 and 5.

What are you asking about specifically, Deltec?

Many people neither smoke nor drink and still experience difficulties with tinnitus. If you are concerned that either has an effect on your T, then removing them from daily use is a sensible idea - particularly smoking, as it's evident that this isn't good for anybody's health.

If you can't detect a difference in your tinnitus, then it's possible that neither alcohol nor smoking have a direct relationship with it. If you have hearing loss, then tinnitus often accompanies it and having this treated would be a good place to start from.

Working with a counsellor to manage any anxiety or low mood specific to tinnitus is also an option, if you are affected by those problems.

Relaxing around your tinnitus and not giving it any specific attention won't take it away, but may help you to find it less intrusive and hopefully will make it bother you less.

There isn't just one approach which helps with tinnitus - it's often a combination of things which help to distract you, lessen your awareness of it and help you to habituate to the sound you experience.

I’m glad you asked that question about smoking. It’s bad for us anyway Um still smoking not as much but I heard it triggers your tinnitus. You stop smoking you don’t feel a change at all?

Hi deltec I know it's frustrating when you feel you've done everything you can to help yourself but T is still a problem. Giving up smoking & drinking is so good for you and walking 15 miles a day is amazing! Hang in there. It's a long journey with lots of ups & downs. Just take one day at a time - if possible. You'll get to a better place.

I understand . Health & safety hasn't always been as good as it should be. Do you wear hearing aids? I can't wait to get mine . Everyone says they really help.

After a turbulent first year I sleep OK now. Perhaps not quite as well as pre T but good enough. I know I'm very lucky to sleep at all . I don't stay up late so I usually wake up early (5am) . I hope you have better days & nights very soon.

I started with T May 2021 and don't smoke or drink, so it's a classic case of 'it can happen to anyone'
