Went to get a haircut today without ear plugs. T seems a bit worse but don't know if its from the anxiety or because of the clippers . Can getting a haircut cause a permanent T spike ?

I would say, sausageman, that you are continuing to worry about your tinnitus - and the more you think about it, the worse it will be. There was a change of noise near your head, so your brain thinks it might be important. Remember, your brain still thinks it has to worry about you being attacked by a wild animal just as it did when we humans were living in caves.

It’s not likely that the spike would be permanent.

I do hope that you are continuing to do the things that people on this forum have suggested you do, to be able to cope better with your tinnitus.

Remember you can have a free web chat during the British tinnitus Association opening hours of 9 to 5 UK time.

Thanks for the reply . I am trying to use the different advices the people here have given me and I am seeing some progress but I've still got ways to go.

Hi, seeing your previous posts I agree with happyrosie. Continuous worry (anxiety) can put us in a constant state of fight/flight emotional response which can lead to over monitoring of our T and lead us into a viscous cycle of constant worry. One thing that really helped me in breaking this cycle was CBT, the tools I learnt by doing CBT (FYI, this was general CBT not tinnitus specific CBT) helped me get distance from my thoughts and feelings and gave me a framework to reframe any negative thoughts/worry. This ultimately led to me living well with my T and I no longer constantly worry about it. Maybe have a discussion with your doctor about the merits of CBT to help you deal with your continuous worry. I hope this helps in some small way. Stay Safe
