Head movement and T onset

Hi all

I have had high pitch T for 10 months now and find it hard. I see ENT and what a waste of time. Audio gave me hearing aids.

The weird thing is that I can bring on T in my right ear by head turning movement??

The left ear is continuous high pitch and like most of you much worse at night/quiet room or when I think about it.

Any suggestions? Thoughts ?

Rod

Hello Rod , Sorry your suffering too. I am a similar age to you , not sure if age is connected. I too find that if I move around more like doing jobs around the house it increases the pressure in my head . If I keep still or lay my head onto a cushion it subsides and feels better. I do agree with you that Ent is useless , it’s annoying , I paid privately a year ago and they were still useless. None of us really get any useful answers to our T

Hi Rod. We can't diagnose here - and believe me, you don't want your health issues guessed at by someone who's only had one cup of coffee today 😀- but tinnitus which seems to change with movements of the head or neck may be said to be Somatic, which you can read about here: tinnitus.org.uk/somatic-som...

The other issues that you've mentioned - tinnitus being more noticeable in quiet environments or at night time - are not at all unusual. Hearing aids are also commonly prescribed, although some audiologists feel that they have more benefit when a mild to moderate hearing loss is demonstrated in audiogram results.

You may want to look into Sound Therapy if you haven't checked it out previously - it's not a cure for tinnitus, but it can offer distraction and provide just enough sound in a quiet space to gently obscure tinnitus to help you rest: tinnitus.org.uk/sound-therapy

Hi 7164. Pat’s reference to the article about somatic tinnitus was fascinating. I wonder in fact if many practitioners are aware of this or able to perform correctly the possible treatments. As Pat also says, noticing your T when it’s quiet and so on is part of the normal experience of T.

Why do we hear it more when we are in a quiet room? What has changed ?

Wow! 7164 that happens to me when I bend my head down I get T in my right ear but fortunately it does disappear, thank heavens its bad enough in one ear, let alone two I will look at the somitic page as suggested by BTA Pat on the Web site. So sorry you are going through a bad time, I cannot offer any advice but just to say I understand and hope that Xmas passes 'quietly' for you. 🎄
