I was interested if anyone else experienced other symptoms when their tinnitus began . I had palpitations , pins and needles , trembling legs and a weakness sensation in the legs . Hot flashes on the face and elsewhere . Also a fullness /pressure sensation in the ears . To cut a very long story short all these things stopped as I began to accept the T was here to stay . I believe they were all a result of anxiety , the brain sees the T noise as a threat and kicks off the fight or flight response and anxiety which produces all these symptoms (and more) .

Well done you, I think your quite right a lot of it is down to our own anxiety. Very well done for mastering the art of training your brain to accept it. Your lucky you say yours has stopped.Mine hasn’t stopped even though I’m training my brain to accept the T . I too get fullness/pressure in head/ears . Your lucky yours has stopped and got better.
Try lying down with your head propped up a bit on a pillow , put your arms down by your sides and breathe slowly in through the nose and out through the mouth . I found this helped with the anxiety symptoms and it can reduce the T volume a bit .
Thank you , I will try that . I know if I lay down on the settee in the evening it leaves me with very blocked noisy T when I get up, it’s as if I’ve shifted something in my head and blocked it up. It’s a mystery all of this .
Good morning, this week I have been told that my T is despatched directly from my brain as it is in the head and not the ears. So, it seems like sedation of the neuro transmitters is the only way to lesson the awful din. However, consultant very reluctant to prescribe sleeping tabs, which I use to slow down the brain activity before bed time. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks for writing. I think if sleeping tablets help people then it’s ok but I think they shouldn’t be used long term. I was prescribed amitryptyljn , helps with nerve pain and relaxes, however I’ve stopped it completely as I read some medications can make tinnitus much worse. I’m just listening to the radio . My tinnitus is a low pitched continuous hum and fullness in the ears . Sometimes it leaves me off balanced too. But it’s not quite as bad as Meneries . Oh dear, it’s just about continuing the best way possible
I have fullness or pressure in the ears.. My left ear is ringing. Right side is good. I totally blame it on ear syringing. Never had any issue before and didn't know what Tinnitus was. I'm taking supplements and using CBD oil on a daily basis and sound therapy. I'm hoping this will reduce the ringing to a more manageable level. Have to be consistent and have faith with this.
Hi , yes , I think I damaged my ear with a cotton bud When I mentioned this to the consultant and my own GP they barely answered me . Considering I paid 195 pounds to the consultant for a private appointment I came away absolutely disappointed. Anyway they did a few scans that revealed nothing sinister. I’ve been suffering 18 months now. I’ve tried inhaling steam to clear out the airways. I would like to have a test to see if the Eustachian tubes are blocked. However, this. “ site”Had been just about as good as it gets and knowing I’m not alone is a great comfort. I just feel irritated that nobody is bothering to do more research . Something surely could be done. Avoid all those American adverts that say there is a cure because there isn’t . Goodnight from me
The Eustachian tubes was on my mine as well. I'm looking for any miracle at this point. It's neurological and I firmly believe that the brain can be retrained over time. Sound therapy helps me.
Absolutely. It is a great description of how some of us experience the flight or fight + freeze response. I experienced this kind of anxiety before tinnitus and believe it may have contributed to the sudden onset of tinnitus. Learning to relax and stay calm is key I believe to acceptance and hopefully habituation.
I got panic attacks at first - especially when I left the house. When they passed I felt frozen with fear. I still do sometimes. Then I remind myself there's nothing to fear. It sounds as if you've got yours under wraps. Good for you!
Hi everyone, this is a really helpful discussion for me. I have had tinnitus for 2 months now but as well as the tinnitus I have this discomfort in my ears, a fullness/pressure/blocked sensation. It also seems to trigger mild motion sickness so I often have this mild nauseous feeling. I was convinced this was something secondary to my tinnitus, although doctors have not found anything. The last consultant believes it to be TMJ disorder but I have no jaw pain or aching at all, so I am not convinced. I am working hard at mindfullness and CBT so hopefully that will help everything with time. In the meantime, I am trying to practice being positive.
