Tinnitus and Trazodone

A few months ago I was prescribed Trazodone for anxiety. 3 weeks later I developed tinnitus. I never had any problems with my ears until now. Anyone else had the same ?

I'm going to stop taking it gradually. Its so intrusive.

Hello Costablanca. Experiencing tinnitus for the first time is very hard, and added to your existing anxiety makes things more difficult for you.. but things will get better.

If you have a good read of the British tinnitus association website there’s lots of help there.

Dont beat yourself up about wondering how you got it, or should you have done something else.

You might want to consult your gp just to ensure there’s nothing else going on; treat yourself kindly

Check with your doctor before stopping trazodone. I cut mine in half. I still have tinnitus, but at least I sleep without the disturbing dreams.

Hi, yes I have been tapering down slowly. Can I ask , did you have tinnitus before you started Trazodone? I never had it before.

Oh yes. I have had tinnitus for most of my life and I am 84 years old. I survived severe depression over 23 years ago and that was when I was prescribed trazodone. At first, I was very spaced out and was almost immediately put on the half dose. I have been on it ever since. You must remember that different people react differently to almost all drugs.
