Iv heard a lot of posts about wine and how much it has effected t sufferers. Kind people that have responded to my posts know that i find it impossible to sleep at night with out a zopiclone tablet, i tried last night it was impossible had to reach for the tablet even after that did wake up a few times but got a good enough sleep my question is does larger have the same effect as wine until a couple of days ago it had not crossed my mind that i may not be able to have a pint again i do not drink at home but love to go out with family and friends and have a few largers. the last 20 years where my tinnitus has been low it never effected my life to this extent even at night hardly noticed it and iv drunk most things in that time, but mainly im just a larger drinker, but now its so loud and impossible to ignore i could not bear to think if i have 3 or 4 pints it will make it even louder. Give me 4 pints and i will sleep like a baby (hopefully) and i could do away with the zopiclone. Has any body who has drunk larger with t suffered a spike or any thing els or has it been kind to you.

Longing to go out again and socialise with friends and family. Lager and wine are both alcohol so might affect you the same - but we’re all different! Try it and see! There are different ways to get to sleep that don’t involve sleeping tablets, though, have you tried these? Cool bedroom, no coffee after noon, no computers two hours before sleep, relaxation breathing .... all these things.
The thing is john .. You won't always need the zopiclone. I feel sure. The spike in your T. is monopolizing your attention but it won't alwyas do this. You'll adjust. I know because I did and I didn't ever think it possible.
Thanks doglover i do feel closer to you, we seem to have been in the same dark tunnel ,you seem to have seen the light, its only been about 3 weeks since my t started screaming at me at night it might not seem long but its deflated me i feel sorry for my wife and son they have had to listen to my moaning luckely iv moved in to the spare bedroom so i do not disturb anybody, i hope you are right my friend i would do anything to see that light. Hi john.. My T started in earnest a year ago at the start of lockdown. I might've perceived it a year or two earlier but it wasn't an issue. By July I was suffering. I had a hearing test and found out I was quite deaf in one ear. Like you I felt engulfed in darkness but gradually over six months I emerged back into the light. I believe you will too. I'm sure you wife & son will bear with you. That's what family do.
I rarely drink John myself, but you can’t give up everything you enjoy.Drink in moderation and relax .

I drink wine & gin (fairly regularly), I would say in my personal experience red wine creates a slight spike for a day or two after. Alcohol in moderation for me hasn’t caused a spike, it’s just when I’ve had one too many! As it’s the fatigue that comes with a hangover that is the issue I assume...
Try not to make life revolve around the T, have a couple of drinks in social situations - enjoy yourself, we all deserve too, but I guess it’ll be a bit of trial & error finding the alcohol that has the least effect on you afterwards
Hi 777john, I have been out to the pub when lockdown permitted and had 3 or 4 pints and slept better with no effect on my Tinnitus, might effect the Tinnitus if drank any more but that could be just having a hangover and Tinnitus, but at least the hangover should soon go not like my Tinnitus .
Hi John, I've suffered T for 24 years. It got much more severe two years ago. 1 year ago a new low pitched sound chimed in with the high pitched whistle. As crazy and louder as it's getting, I still find my ability to ignore it improving. I'd scene the top audiologist both early on and recently. The doctors advice hasn't changed. whilst the military spends billions researching its potential use as a weapon, and covers up the causes(a habit they've developed since WW1.) little has been spent in the effort to treat the disorder. This perhaps in partly due to the liability they'd face if people found out what was really causing T.
Firstly, if you keep looking for answers as I've done, such as reading the posts on this platform, your thwarting your brains efforts to habituate. Secondly, accepting the challenge to be on your own with it (although an alarmingly larger percentage of the population is getting T at a rapid rate) will help you focus your mind on other things, rather than helplessly searching for answers.
I often think of unsubscribing here but the thought that if a cure is discovered, I'll find it here first, keeps me daring to check in from time to time.
So, back to audiologists advice who actually receive hundreds of millions to research T.
1. Nothing is being done to treat T, only meds to deal with depression and hearing aids to mask the false sensation of T.
2. On the record, two much caffeine and or alcohol can make T worse. Off the record, many of the patients who've coped the best with T long term, claim a couple of glasses of wine each evening help settle the nervous system, releaving anxiety and reducing the production of stress hormones.
The trick is regulating your consumption. It's tempting to always have a bit more. That's why that little hangover headache creeps in, to remind you to not overdo it.
3. My experience with this method stems from living in wine country, having access to thousands of eccelent wines. If I drink a fine wine made with few or no sulphates, and I drink plenty of water that evening, I feel terrific the next day. If it's a cheap blend that's mass produced, it's much more likely to cause a headache and subsequently a spike in my T. The same holds true for beer and liqueurs.
4. Studies show that alcohol will cause you to fall asleep initially because it's a sedative for the frontal lobe of your brain, but after 2-5 hours of solid sleep, (basically after the alcohol is evaporated/processed through your liver) your regular sleep cycle is now lost in resuming the sleep for the remainder of the night, resulting in sleep deprivation to a degree.
If you can ween yourself back to two pints of a brew that doesn't give you a bad headache, then stay awake long enough to actually get tired for real, then practice sleep training to get back to sleep after the induced sleep, you only need one more trick to getting you to a good 8 hours sleep. If your tossing and turning, get up, watch a movie and go back to bed. Doctors orders. If you fight it, you'll just toss and turn from 1:00-:500am.
And by the way, if there is a cure, do you think it's in the interest of this platform to cure the core participants of it? I hope so.
