I have so many different tones/fluctuations that I'm doubting it's something I can ever get used to. Two different sounds in left ear, another different one in right and a general high pitch hissing from head. If one of them isn't annoying me then the other is!
What does your tinnitus sound like?: I have so... - Tinnitus UK
What does your tinnitus sound like?
Same here Angel, so many different sounds and when one stops another sound takes over. I've just had two reasonably quiet weeks then wham, this evening I have a loud hum in my head and hissing too. I get the high pitch sound sometimes as well and occasionally the sound of a distant lawnmower or cement mixer. I have names for them all. I hope you're having a good day today. Sending hugs.
Hi Jolyn, thanks for your reply. Not having a very good day unfortunately as I've had a new sound pop up over the last few days and it's all a bit much. I've only had T for 4 months and I'm still really struggling to be honest. Such a shock, I never knew something like this existed then I just woke up with it one morning and my life has changed forever.
Sorry to hear you are having a loud night with it, I'm sure it'll settle down again soon for you.
Thanks for the response Angel, it's difficult isn't it, I'm sorry you're having a bad day. What hobbies do you have? I do a lot of photography, sometimes it helps if I'm not having too bad a day. When you have a moment listen to Julian Cowan Hill on YouTube, he's so calming and talks a lot of common sense about tinnitus. He's has many videos to listen to and a very calming voice. He helps you to habituate and to cope with the spikes and is very reassuring.
I've watched a few of his videos, he is very reassuring and I've even thought of contacting him to help but I think I'll try and follow his advice from the videos first. I'm still stuck in the 'fear' cycle unfortunately and can't see a way out. I do hope for habituation at some point though!
He's lovely isn't he Angel, he does a video on the fear cycle. If you haven't seen it, watch it on the link below. I must admit I panicked a bit when the noise came back this evening, I'm trying to calm down now, just hope I can. 🙂 youtube.com/watch?v=JnzZIbL...
Thanks for this, I'll give it a watch. It's one I haven't seen.
❤️
I'm glad you have photography to keep you occupied. I like to crochet and read although I've barely managed to pick up a book since this started, not been able to concentrate. I also have two young boys so they help to keep me occupied although I'm even struggling to give them the attention they deserve at the moment. Hoping things get better.
Do some crocheting and see if it helps. Yes, two young children will keep you on your toes and will be a distraction. You need to be quiet to read don't you. Do you find your tinnitus bothers you when you're out and about or does outside sound drown it out?
Outside sound drowns out the noises in my ears but I'm always hearing the head noise unless in the car/cooking. Quite distracting when going for a walk but I get out every day anyway - need to exercise the children!
Is the head noise similar to the extractor fan above your cooker, or the microwave sound? I'll tell you someone else I listen to and his name is David R Hamilton and he's written a book called, How your mind can heal your body. My sister gave me the book many years ago {she's a psychotherapist} and he talks about the placebo effect. He also describes how to do visualisations to help heal yourself. I do them now and again, not as often as I should though. I think all these things help and thinking positive is a good thing. It's not always easy but practise makes perfect. 🙂
No, head noise js very high pitched static/electrical hissing sound so hard to mask it out - the car and cooking are loud enough to but not much else does. The ears are various different tones that change throughout the day, head noise always the same. I'll look up David Hamilton too, thanks. There's also a lady called Joey Remenyi who talks about healing T with neuroplasticity, seems to make sense and again is quite reassuring but I think it all takes a lot of hard work and time.
Yes, the hissing is annoying isn't it. I've seen Joey Remenyi and yes she's good to listen to. It's the video's about curing tinnitus we need to keep away from as there isn't a cure yet. Even though Julian talks about a cure, it's purely in the form of habituation.
Hi Angel tinnitus isn't a nice thing to have at all. I have a very high pitch violin sound it bothers me worse when I take my hearing aids out for bed time, it makes me feel like I want to pull my hair out. Xx
Constant high pitched ringing, more predominantly in left ear the the right
Constant high pitch ringing in both ears but also have whistling in the right ear as well. sometimes get a droning noise too. Oh what joy!!!
continuous high pitched tone which goes up in frequency if i clench my jaw...had it for many many years...also get an irregular crackiling in my ears if i yawn or swallow..having ears cleaned made no difference and they were not waxed up..i had put it down to being at the front by the marshall stacks at a motorhead gig many years ago which made my ears ring for a week and a habit of (disgusting i know) picking at my ears with a cotton bud or similar but now thinking it may be phsycological somehow..
if i keep occupied it is bearable but a nice walk in the woods is kind of ruined as i never hear just pure nature.
there are worse issues people struggle with so i dont make to much fuss, but this site helps as its reassuring to know others have the same kind of experiances.
