using otomize for perforated ear drum

I was recently fitted with a NHS hearing aid to my left ear which works fine. They also discovered I have a perforated ear drum on my right. My right ear began to discharge very badly. The consultant rang me at home(I did not see him in the clinic because of clovid) and he prescribed OTOMIZE spray. The instructions clearly say must not be used on a perforated ear drum and everwhere on line says the same.I can not get in touch with the clinic. They are using answer machines only, which they do not answer. At present my hearing is all but gone in my right ear and it still discharges ,though greatly reduced. So my question is should I use it or not? All help advice greatly appreciated

1. Try your own doctors surgery for advice and/or

2. Talk to your pharmacist

I do not know where you live, but in the UK your doctors surgery should be helping you.

I echo Rosie's response - a pharmacist is a good source of information and support regarding medication and potential issues arising from it's use.

Hi. Please be careful. I wish I had been as astute as you, but I rushed ahead and used Otomize when in the grips of a bad ear infection simply because I wanted it to go away.

After 4 days I was struck with tinnitus, thats what bought me to this forum, and now after 7 months I'm left wondering if it will ever get better or go away.

Talk to a pharmacist or simply wait to get something else prescribed.

Good luck.

I used otomise and I’m wondering if this is what caused my tinnitus too?

Same here, I would not use it. I was prescribed Otomize a few weeks ago for an ear infection, not that the gp looked, all on the phone. I used for 5 days as prescribed and the next day I got tinnitus in that ear. Also did nothing for the ear ache I still have. If I could go back I would have chucked it in the bin. I am furious gps prescribing this poison.

I personally would not use it as I was prescribed this and then I was told I had a perforated eardrum, now I have Constant tinnitus ! My GP has prescribed me ciprofloxacin hydrochloride eyedrop solution 5ml. Speak to your pharmacist or doctor to confirm whether this is right for you

Hi,thanks for the quick responses. My Doctor said that any possible damage done by the otomize would on balance be better than doing nothing-hardly a recommendation.I am now taking it and lets see what happens. At present the hearing in my right ear has gone.I will let you know in a week or so.Thanks again
