Your DR can refer you to your local ENT where you can be assessed with a hearing test and tinnitus support you should be offered hearing aids which are computerised to the level of your hearing these hearing aids have white noise built in which can reduce your tinnitus.

Thanks for your reply. Have you got these aids and do they help you?

in reply toTL10

I have these and I can’t live without them they reduce my T to a whisper have you got a local tinnitus group in your area these can be a big support.

Glad they work for you 👍🏻 I think there is a local but am not sure. I’ve had it for about 20 years now and need to do something about it so am looking forward to getting these aids 🙏🏻

I’m surprised you didn’t do something before now how bad is your Tinnitus? Mine can be screaming without my aids in another tip never get water in your ears when showering or swimming use cotton wool in your ears or ear bungs .

It’s pretty bad. I played the drums for years then DJ’d went to loads of gigs etc I’ve just always put up with it as for years didn’t think there was anything that can be done! Recently it’s just been a bit too much. I wear headphones to go to sleep most nights and can’t watch TV for long as the ringing is so intense

Basically I’ve had enough now

Thanks for the tip on the cotton wool 👍🏻

You should avoid headphones is a definitely a No no it can make your Tinnitus worse some Tinnitus sufferers find nature sounds like rain or ocean sounds can comfortably ease Tinnitus

I use noise cancelling ones and at low volume and do listen to nature sounds and rain etc to go to sleep and to help get me back to sleep when wake up 👍🏻

in reply toTL10

That’s good you use the right headphones

British Tinnitus Association say to avoid ‘in ear’ headphones but you can buy sleep phones (wired and wireless) tinnitus.org.uk/shop/sleepp... and bone conduction headphones are ok too, you can buy them from a few different places tinnitus.org.uk/pages/shop/...

in reply toYogijo

I have used these sleep headphones the problem is they can make your ears sweat which leads to moisture in your ears which can cause ear infections

Do you have hearing loss as well as tinnitus,I don't have hearing loss but do have trauma tinnitus caused by 3very loud bang's in quick succession, when I saw an audiologist and asked about a masking aid he said that he hadn't prescribed one of those for 15yrs,so here I am still listening to this screaming racket in my head,I am so fed up of going around in circles, thankfully I purchased a bone conduction headphone that has been my lifesaver which I can (after seeing OCC health)wear at work.

I’ve got one of those head band headphones as well. I bought it off amazon and does a job I suppose but thick material so gets you hot so don’t wear often, just not sure why these tinnitus ones are different as they are much more expensive..

in reply toTL10

Yes these head phones make your ears sweat and causes moisture in your ears

I have no idea how the ones on the BTA website compare to others. It was just easy to find things on their website and buying from then does support the work they do. I’m sure there are plenty of other options. I have head band headphones from somewhere else but I’m not a fan of them either!

I have some bone conduction headphone s from the BTA site, they have been an absolute lifesaver

What’s so good about them ?

Judyspal in reply toTL10

I don't like in ear buds or headphones, bone conduction headphones are better for me as whilst wearing them I can also hear surrounding noise, hence why I can wear them at work

Thanks for the reply. I use noise cancelling ones which mean I can keep volume low not to make my tinnitus go crazy

May try these ones out

Hi reading your responders seems like you have good advice- at night I use a sleep mask with built it Bluetooth speakers over the ears - play a choice of white noise on a level just below the tinnitus from a app on my phone set on a timer - works for me very well. I chose a mix of crashing waves and heavy rainfall . It works well for sleeping. The mask is comfy ( ear plugs are NOT) and blacks out your eyes and ears to the white noise.. let me know if you try it?

Good luck
