I’ve had tinnitus for four weeks which is a constant static noise, with a high pitched ringing in my left ear which varies from day to day. However the night before last, I woke up to a high pitched ringing in my right ear which tapered off after about 15 seconds to nothing. Obviously I was anxious hoping this isn’t the start of ringing in my right ear!! Last night I woke to constant high pitch ringing in my right ear, but it sounded very distant. It’s been there all day in the back ground. Is it normal for the sounds to swap from ear to ear?

Does your tinnitus swap ears?
Hi FallenAngel83,
I have the exact same experience! My tinnitus started off in the right ear and though I predominantly experience the ringing in my right ear, occasionally it likes to switch it up and appear in my left ear or sometimes even in my head (if that makes sense). And it probably sounds weird but the switch up mainly occurs at night time, sometimes dependant on what position I’m trying to sleep in. It’s really strange.

Hi Annie, thanks for your reply. Oh I’m sorry you’ve experienced this also. It’s so strange, the main static like noises comes from my head ( middle ) so I hear it in both ears. But the high pitched tones go from one ear to the other 🤔 Yes it usually happens at night & I find sleeping on the side the high pitches are coming from, makes them louder xX
Mine is in both ears 24/7 the sound and volume changes from ear to ear there is no pattern to it.it just changes
I have had tinnitus for about three years or so and my head noise is mainly on the right side. Over the past few months, I have noticed the left side is beginning to join the party more fequently as well and if I have a spike, it becomes equally loud on both sides as if my head is being drilled through! I am always worried about any sudden increase in volume becoming permanent but so far, things usually settle down after a few days. I hope it settles down for you soon.
Hi there Jimmuck, thanks for your reply. Oh sorry you’ve had this for so long & that it has ramped up a gear! It’s hard not to worry when things change or get louder but I’m too trying to keep positive as usually things do calm down to a more manageable level. I’m always hoping it will eventually go away, I hope yours & everyone else’s goes for good one day soon 🤞🏻
Well Fallen Angel you’ll see from the replies so far that it varies! People experience the Big T in different ways.
