Hi Summer 60

I watched your video clip. It still amazes me how T starts. It can come out of the blue, following a head injury, taking medication, tweaking your neck, sneezing and the list goes on!!

Good luck on your journey.

Wishing you peace and quiet.

Ade

Hi Bob, firstly thanks for sharing your story.

I also suffer from both hyperacusis and tinnitus and have done for the last 4 years and my experience is quite similar to yours in that the hyperacusis causes more problems than the tinnitus. Mine started after a gig, before which I'd never had any previous ear issues. It now feels like I barely paid any attention to my ears in the previous 29 years. Unfortunately I don't have any magic cures and I still have bad days but can offer some advice that may help a little.

Acceptance is a big part of being able to move on with your life and I think this can be important in the case of a condition like this. I personally had a lot of regrets about how and why mine started but ultimately it doesn't matter as it doesn't change the condition. Dwelling on this can increase anxiety however which can aggregate the tinnitus if not the hyperacusis in my case.

I can tell you are angry about trying the hearing aid and objectively I think that was the right decision for you at the time as I know a lot of people get relief from their tinnitus with hearing aids so I don't think you should dwell on that too much. I personally find mindfulness helps with tinnitus, if only temporarily. It may be worth looking into if you haven't tried it already. I've been listening to some of mark williams' audio tracks on YouTube.
