There’s nothing so bad that we humans can’t make it worse

Ok my tinnitus is horrible but what isn’t. My job, my wife, my reflection. Seems that our epistemology would have us believe that it’s all horrible, to a degree. Isn’t it just the joy of being human and why sarcasm is so rife..

After constant exposure to sonic rodent deterrent s at my place of work for over a year I can safely say that my tinnitus is off the richter and clearly not going away anytime soon.

So yeah what to do about it ?

Anyone out there with a free seat to another plannet where this delightful thing’s not happening then please feel free to drop me a line..

My epistemology tells me we have no idea how we exist. That we exist is not in question, but how? No scientist, philosopher or guru can tell you. No one knows and yet we go about as if it’s all “normal”. So yea tinnitus is a pain but I figure I’m not really understanding anything properly. It puts it in perspective for me. Still a drag but there are bigger issues which shrink the T issue a little Just a little..

Sonic rodent deterrent? Now that’s an odd one. Rat the luck.

As humans most people are controlled by their ego's, which always label everything as good or bad, positive or negative. Acceptance of what IS , and not resisting it, I find a very helpful practice. Recovering from the worst depths of depression caused by T I discovered Eckhart Tolle, and his teachings continue to help me a lot. 'Non resistance to form' is very important. Form being whatever is or whatever happens. We create a lot of our own suffering by resisting what is. In my case, constantly thinking 'why did I not wear earplugs at that concert, now look what you've done, ruined your own life'. So in non resistance you can find a release from a lot of the suffering.

You don't need to know how you exist, just that you do, and that you are not your mind!

Btw, did you mean to say that your wife is horrible?

I know I will never understand how I exist btw. It is the great mystery.

This next conversation is veering away a bit from talk about T, but maybe not. In that it may be the best help we can get, (and not just for T) this "non-resistance to form".

The distinction you make of ego and mind is curious and I want to explore it just a little. I take our egos to be a subset of mind. I would use awareness to replace "mind" in this instance. I see awareness as the biggest umbrella . Awareness seems to embrace the mind and the ego both.
I can go along if we say we are not ONLY our ego or we can let go of the ego and rest in our awareness. I take mind to be like one of our senses. I see it as that part of us that synthesizes all the sensory input, and has the capacity to name things. And just like our eyes we can reduce what comes in even though awareness remains.

"Non-resistance to form" makes my shoulders relax just hearing the statement. Thank you. As much as possible I take the curse of T to use as an impetus to practice this kind of thing. NOT easy as it is so constant. With a meditation practice we sit and then get up and go about our day hopefully carrying forward some of the calm/peace we have experienced. But T never lets up. We never get a break. The “opportunity” for practice goes on all day, everyday! I can just see some old Zen guy smiling.

I believe that the mind is a physical construction, which creates the ego. Maybe we need these things to function in this world but, they are not who we really ARE. For me awareness and 'being in the moment' is a way of moving away, and looking at our physical selves and trying just to BE the spirit and essence of who we really are. To read about why mind is physical, check out Quantam Healing by Deepak Chopra.

I agree, it's really hard to meditate with T, but with practice you can step away from it a little. Maybe I'm lucky in that when I'm outside or concentrated on work, I forget it's there. I don't hear it when driving either, so I do get some respite.

I really do believe that we can heal ourselves and so I know it will go eventually. People all over the world are getting cured from things much worse than T. It is definatly within your abilities to do the same.

Hi, try and see your Tinnitus as part of you now, you can only try lowering it by maybe using something louder than your Tinnitus, hoover, hairdryer, but only white noise will mask it, have you been given these, they are better noise, but if you can't hear it loud, then that's good, if you try sleeping with white noise Maskers that'll help, but try riding with it, it's only a silly noise, you'll feel better when you habituate, don't let it control you, don't think you can't carry on, because you can, you're intelligent, and ignore it, use your mind to try out it at the back of your head, it's hard, but you'll get there, try get some councelling, that'll help you, watch comedy on the TV, anything to make you laugh, good luck X

Until I had T, I didn't realize there were two 3 o'clocks in the day and neither of them quiet.
