Is this tonic tensor tympani?

It could be part of my loud low drone tinnitus but it's quite bothersome. I been waking up the past few days with a loud thumping in the back of my head and neck that lasts a few minutes. When my low tinnitus is very loud then I get a loud vibrating feeling in my head. My tinnitus got worse after a cold, 5 months ago and the doctor looked in my ear and saw no fluid in them. I get mucus in my throat alot but my nose isnt stuffy. When I had my cold 5 months ago, I would swallow and hear a clicking sound every time I swallowed but that went away months ago and I remember not tasting food that well for a month after my cold went away but food tastes fine to me now and has tasted normally for quite a few months. I've gotten sinus pressure during that cold and I still occasionally get sinus pressure. I get a clicking sound alot without swallowing like a clicking in my ear. My tinnitus still gets louder throughout the day. I was born with severe hearing loss and havent lost more hearing. I dont know if the thumping could be tensor tympani syndrome or what. What causes tempor tympani syndrome? Theres a ringing that competes with external sounds including tv so I'm not sure if it could all be caused by that cold 5 months ago. People say they get a thumping in their ears but I feel like it's in my head. What should I do? The doctor didnt bother sticking a camera in my nose since theres no fluid in my ears. Could this be tonic tensor tympani? Does it go away? I'm noticing it more after quitting benzos.

Hi Alugo - sorry to read that you're having difficulties with your tinnitus currently. This link to guidance on Tensor Tympani Syndrome might help (from Hyperacusis.net) - hyperacusis.net/other-facto...

One take away from the piece is that the syndrome anticipates and reacts to loud sounds in advance and can be triggered by thinking about a sound before it happens - is this something which you are experiencing?

Best wishes

Well I notice sometimes while watching YouTube videos on full volume of my tablet, I get a vibrating sensation by my ear or the side of my skull. I wake up in the middle of the night a few times this week to really loud tinnitus or with a loud thumping in the back of my head that's not in sync with my heart beat. I got off benzos two weeks ago so dont know if that's why I been waking up for a week with super loud tinnitus or if it's the way I sleep.
