Does medication help Tinnitus?

I am extremely sceptical about this, as I just “ don’t believe it”, ok a minor tranquilizer May calm me down, but mr T is still there as loud as ever,I have seen loads of different medications suggested from various health professionals, nothing I have ever taken has made one iota of difference. What do you guys believe??

The rationale is if there is some medication which can calm your senses, it might enable you to be less stressed about the T, which might reduce the perception of your T.

For me low dosage of Aprazolam (Xanax)

Works it does not cure it but it makes it so I can go on with out the screaming of loudness and less anxiety which is a big part of T. And I do get days where there is silence 2-3 which I am so grateful for

Best of luck in finding silence in your life

There is no medication or treatment for tinnitus that I know that works.

My personal view is that the only effective programmes for coping with T are:- 1) Prolonged exercise. Not for everybody, I know, but I find a long stiff walk to help, mainly because it relaxes me. 2) Sharing experiences with fellow sufferers, because nobody else is really interested ( unless they are trying to sell you something ).

Anything that calms the agitation and arousal which is caused by tinnitus has got to be a good tool ......... so prefer to use Kalms, HTR and CBD oil when desperate. It all might be psychologically helping, but they does seem to help - not all together!!!

I find a low dose of Amitriptyline taken late evening helps me sleep. I have discovered that tiredness is a major trigger for me so if I sleep better, it helps me avoid the dreaded spikes.

My tinnitus started when I went through withdrawals from Klonopin and Xanax a few years ago. I haven't found anything that helps.

For the insomnia and to continue working I went on low dose zoplicone -hearing therapist wanted me off this by my appointment next year - struggled without - so recently switched to low dose mirtazipine. I figured it was worth treating the aspects of the condition that were treatable - stress & distress at night. Balance has improved with switch. Tinnitus about the same.

Hi

Low dosages of Aprazolam.05 mg helps my anxiety and lowers my T that’s me I’m not saying it will help you but it’s worth a try if you haven’t tried it already

Hoping for peace and silence

I am now on mirtazapine but only 7.5mg .I hate taking anything but I have very bad Anxiety.

So far my T has been very loud on them but my Anxiety feels better.

I was on Diazepam 2mg when and if I needed, but I got worried about getting addicted.

On Diazepam my T was not as loud so now i'm not sure what to do. It's so hard to make a decision to go on antidepressants or not ,but what can you do when anxiety hits you like a ton of bricks.

If only doctors supported T sufferers in the way an optician would if we needed to have glasses ,then we would not be chasing around in the dark.
