Wisdom teeth removal caused Tinnitus

Hi guys, new here but im really really hoping someone can help me!

I had 3 wisdom teeth removed and a Coronectomy conducted on my bottom left wisdom tooth ( sliced in half) when I woke up the surgon said they had some difficulties and had to cut into the jaw bone. I was really dazed at the time from all the drugs so took no notice of it.

2 weeks later I was still in pain developed mouth ulcers and managed to clear them.

What I have now is a constant ringing in my ear which I have never had before I thought it was just the right ear however I am now noticing it in the left ear as well. I have also noticed my jaw does not line up where I have an overbite ( bottom teeth closing inside the top teeth close to the top gums) I can’t pop my right ear as well as my left anymore and my mouth is not opening as wide as it use to. Im really scared as I can’t cope with this ringing anymore my doctors sent me for a ENT check-up which was all clear and they said it’s just Tinnitus which you have never noticed before but I 100% did not have this issue before!

Please can someone provide some advice in how to tackle this because the noise is sooo loud even with background noise I can still hear the ringing.

Dental / TMJ (temporomandibular joint) issues can cause tinnitus.

If you can hear the ringing over any background noise, then welcome to the gang. It's not uncommon unfortunately. The best place to start is the actual BTA site - tinnitus.org.uk/ - rather than the forum. There are resources there to help you understand what tinnitus is and first steps in trying to deal with it. tinnitus.org.uk/takeontinnitus

Given that it's only a recent development for you, keep your fingers crossed that it fades over the next few weeks.

Hello and welcome to the British Tinnitus Association forum.

Do feel free to ask any questions, I hope that you find this a helpful and supportive place to help you manage your tinnitus.

We have some resources that you might like to check out in addition to our home here:

tinnitus.org.uk (information and support details)

takeontinnitus.co.uk (free tinnitus management programme)

There is lots of good advice to help manage tinnitus on the BTA website. I believe it is well established that tinmitus can occur after invasive mouth procedures. It seems like your other symptoms with the jaw and bite need investigating.

Can you go back to the care provider who did the extractions and tell them what is now happening?

Alternatively can you go to your primary care provider and maybe get a referal to the appropriate department?
