Hi everyone, I have had tinnitus for around 3 weeks and the cause is unknown. GP examined my ear and noticed that I have wax that literally blocks you from seeing my eardrum. Have been prescribed otex and then will go in for syringing to remove the wax (my uncle is an experienced gp who is doing the syringing to ensure that tinnitus doesn’t get worse) could tinnitus be caused by the wax? Or do you think it won’t make a difference? I’m trying to habituate to the tinnitus if permanent

Tinnitus advice for 18 year old
Hey wilma34,
My right ear has been ringing since a week as well( I am 23). My GP did remove some hard wax from my ear but the ringing hasn’t stopped yet. But I still have hope as I can still feel not all of the wax has been removed. I will go back this Monday for further checking and if she can’t then I’ll go to an audiologist. I’ve read that microsuction can remove the wax so I really hope that clears out my ringing. My GP did say that excessive wax can cause ear ringing so that’s why I am staying positive that I’ll be relieved from it soon. I hope that’s the same for you.
Thank you, this is so stressful as I’m going to be starting uni soon and don’t want to be a social outcast due to tinnitus
Hi, Wax will cause ringing in the ear. You have every chance that once the wax is removed your T. will clear. Good luck
I thought this too but after having the cleanest ears in the world lol the T is still
Here !!! I hope it will relieve you of the T
In your life. Good luck !!
Yes I thought the same thing and so did my doctor I was always complaining to him at first all he would tell me that it was allergies and then he removed the wax.
Which wasn’t a lot and then the audiologists said it was Tinnitus.
I have it going on 2 years now. I try to keep it under control with over the counter remedies like Ring Relief. I also had a little luck with CBD Oil. But the best Medicine
For me was low dosages of Aprazolam
Twice a day. I just might go back on that.
Idk we will see .
Hi I have lived with T for about 14 months and have had all ear wax removed by syringing and believe me there was a lot of it! I spent ten days putting olive oil drops in my ears beforehand which helped a lot.
Best of luck!
I've had T since I was 15 doing push-ups, I am now 67. I was able to adjust over years; never took anything for it anyway. The last 3 months it has ramped up really loud along with hyperacusis. I now have to do something about. TRT, meds or something I would be happy to go back to my previous level. You are lucky Wilma34 that you are living in a time when so much research is ongoing. I really think there will be a break through in the next few years. Take care of yourself and be hopeful.
Mine didn’t go away after wax removal. 10 years in now. Really hope you have better luck. Let us know how you get on and best wishes.
Wishing you all the best! and I hope yours does clear up but on the lowest chance it doesn’t it doesn’t mean you have to be a social outcast <3
Hi there. I'm just catching up with posts as I took a bit of a break over Christmas. Hello and welcome to the British Tinnitus Association forum! I hope that you find this a helpful and supportive place to help you manage your tinnitus.

From my personal experience, last winter I had a prolonged bout of tinnitus due to compacted ear wax (and I'd tried to remove it myself, which only made things worse, and yes, I know better!). After microsuction at the local hospital, the tinnitus had stopped before I'd even got back to the bus stop, so yes, it can and does go once the blockage is removed. It might be quite as quick though, it depends on how your brain processes the new signals!
Warmest wishes
