Is This Tinnitus??

Hello.

I have a constant wooshing noise in my ears that keeps pace with my heartbeat. It gets worse at night and when its quiet. Does anyone else have this ? Is it Tinnitus. Its driving me up the wall.

Going by your description of it, it is pulsatile tinnitus. There's a load of information about this in various posts on here, so have a trawl through them and you'll get a much better understanding of what it is. Try not to panic and keep calm as getting yourself stressed makes it worse. Best wishes.

Hello yes sounds like pulsatile tinnitus which is what I have. Mine is due to arthritis of neck . Take care .

Hello Valient.

I don't know what has caused mine. My GP says its due to high blood pressure, but to be honest I don't think he cares and has not offered any treatment other than bp medications. I just wish he could have it for an evening. There must be some relief!!!.

Yes it could be your blood pressure or the medication . Some people are affected by blood pressure medication. I know it's hard work with GPs unfortunately they don't know enough about the condition . It may be worth looking up your tablets and see if they are causing it. Good luck ..

I too have pulsatile tinnitus caused by hearing loss - I was told that because the carotid artery runs very close to the hearing nerve I am picking up the sound of my heartbeat and circulation. Took me a while but I did eventually realise the more stressed I became the louder the noise became because the stress was making my heart beat faster. If you`ve not already done so see your GP - I believe there can be many causes for pulsatile tinnitus.

Hi Lynne-H.

My GP Tells me there is nothing he can do, and that he noted I mentioned it at my last visit. Other than refer me to ENT which he is reluctant to do I just have to put up with it. Its at its worst when I relax at night but like you the more I stress about it the louder and faster it becomes. What to do??

Hi Bernard,

I don`t think that you should just put up with it. If possible you need to find the cause of your pulsatile tinnitus. If you can find the cause, it may not be treatable but a least you can then work on coming to terms with it. Have another word with your doctor and see if he will refer you for some tests.

Hi fed up,I get the same thing and your right it gets much worse at night,I was prescribed betahistine tablets for vertigo and they seem to help with the whooshing noise at night,suggest these tablets to your doctor they are called Serc16 all the best mate Jeff

Does this T bother you most of the day, or just at quiet times, or at the end of the day? This seems to be the case with me. Have you tried any other treatments to get some peace. I'm trying white noise at night seems that's helping a little I don't know if the serc will help but I will ask for some.

Managed to get an ENT app from my GP so will have to wait for that to mature. In the mean time can anyone advise on noise therapy? I have a Hangsung unit that is quite good but not very good at night. I need something nearer or on my head. Any Ideas??.
