Hyperacusis or not

I have had tinnitus now for nearly 5 weeks.started off in one ear but after having wax removed have it in both ears, nearly two weeks ago now I noticed that certain sounds like fans, computer or central heating seems to get so high pitched.funny thing is my central heating could be on a hour before this really starts to make the loud noise. It dos'nt happen straight away.certain TV programmes are the same.is this hyperacusis? I don't know. My doctor seems to think it will take time for my auditory system to settle down as I had so much wax removed.i'm constantly worry about it,as even when there's no noise I have this humming noise in my head

Hi Michael

Nice to meet you. Welcome.

I have t and h also (6 months now). My understanding is that reduced tolerance to loud sounds (or what is tolerated by others as reasonable sound) is defined as hyperacusis but you can be tested by an audiologist to confirm that. I am wearing sound generators which my audiologist says will hopefully eventually reduce my hyperacusis but is not a tinnitus cure. My tinnitus is not helped by stress/anxiety which I suffer with. Check out The British Tinnitus Assocation who have info on hyperacusis. They are very kind and offer support and advice.

Thanks for reply. I just am lost on this one.some days the sound of something that bothered me yesterday is ok the next day or it could take 20 minutes before it kicks in to be annoying.i have this constant droning noise in the head with worry.i really don't know. Getting hearing test done tomorrow.
