I have had intermittent tinnitus, a low drone head noise, since May 2021 (I think vaccine induced). In Nov 2022 I had microsuction on one ear. In April 2023 I woke up to nonstop static/white noise in my head, high pitched and loud. Has been 24/7 for nearly 10 months. Can hear it over the TV, in the car with the radio on, outside, in the shower, supermarket, everywhere. My whole auditory system feels like it's on high alert. The noises come from inside my head, not ears, which seems unusual. At nearly a year into the constant tinnitus and nearly 3 years into the intermittent head noise, I don't feel any less obsessed and distressed than at the onset. Seen audiologist and ENT, had MRI. Not on any meds. Desperate for some relief. Don't know what to do next, it's ruining my life.

Hi, there are a number of posts pointing to tinnitus UK website for guidance on CBT, general advice, devices for masking help etc. I take it you've had hearing test (audiologist) as well to ensure no loss of hearing? It is very challenging to deal with. Masking does work for some, and having background noise.

Hi, thanks. Saw ENT yesterday, no discernable hearing loss. I need to tackle the ocd aspect as, nearly 10 months in, I am still 100 percent focused on the nonstop head noise. No signs of habituation. Think I may ask doctor about nortriptyline. Have you tried any meds?

Hi, I'm always very wary of meds. The only time I considered it but didn't use was to help with sleep issues when my T first started to get bad. I didn't as they were AD (combined). I cannot make any form of recommendation for you (i.e. for your doctor to manage). Others may have tried but I cannot comment as I've stayed away from them. However my hearing issues appear due to hearing loss, so hearing aids help me. There may be side affects with any medication as well, so you'll need to check with doctor.

Hi am incredibly sorry to read this, out of all my T noises the droning is the worst for me, i havent had this as long as you though, had mri and ct scans have had chronic ear pain 4 years now, no wax, cant get habituated either, especially when you can sleep or focus, its dreadful for you, i have avoided drugs due to most of them being ototoxic, tried Rholioda but its giving me nightmare dreams, have tried breathing, meditation, physio, cranial sacral work, now acupuncture, recommendJulian Cowan Hill on You Tube. Do hope somehow things improve for you.

To be honest, I prefer(!) the low drone as it's intermittent. The high pitched white noise of nearly 10 months is unbearable as it's nonstop. I had 2 online sessions with Julian Cowan Hill last May, seen ENT 3 times, NHS and private audiologists. I'm out of options other than to try a med to change my brain chemistry. If if makes the tinnitus louder but helps me to not care then maybe that's better than being stuck in fight or flight.

Oh am sorry - you have tried so hard and i know how frustrating it all is, my droning is constant, i guess if you can see a Dr to prescribe something that will help calm you a little that will help, do hope you can see a Dr i cant even get an appointment, got referred to a nurse - who was very kind, but said i needed to see A Dr !!! (a whole different subject!!)

I'm sure my T was caused by Covid / Covid vaccine!!

Sounds like the vaccine is messing with a lot of people, heard of some detox that seems to help with this I will drop the link for you to look it up. Just ordered the combination and will start this once it comes in. I didn't take the vaccine but started severe tinnitus after I had covid. masterpeacebyhcs.com/?ref=4094

Thanks for the link, I will definitely look into these products. It would be amazing if they lessened my loud nonstop tinnitus!

I can totally relate to what you're going through. I developed pulsatile tinnitus in Dec. 2021 the night after my 3rd COVID vaccine. I was so sick that night I wasn't sure I was going to survive. The tinnitus started then too and has never relented.

I describe it as almost electrical - sometimes in

one ear, sometimes both, but most often like it's in my head/ brain and is attached to each ear with an electrical wire. It's not something you can describe to people because they think you are crazy. Like you, nothing masks it - not in the shower, not music. I've had an MRI and all the accompanying tests but what I believe is that if it's vaccine related, so far there is no treatment. Some theories say the vaccine put your immune system into overdrive and this is the result. Not very comforting, I know.

A doctor is the U.S., Dr. Gregory Poland, experienced a similar vaccine reaction so you might want to look him up. I have had some relief with a noise masking hearing aid called Widex but it's very expensive though does help when you're wearing them.

You probably don't get much sleep either. Falling asleep is hard and if you wake in the middle of the night - getting back to sleep is almost impossible. I hate taking sleeping pills but that's what I often have to do. You can try different forms of (legal) cannibis meant to aid relaxation/sleep. There are people on this site who have given information about relaxation/CBT which is good advice. Every person has to find their own route to cope.

The best I can offer during the day is distraction - keep busy, don't spend time sitting focusing on it (I know, hard to do when it's screaming in your head).

Hope this helps.

Thanks hhr2. I remember the day I had my one and only vax I was awake all night shivering. The intermittent low drone head noise started around 2 later. But the 24/7 static head noise began 2 years post vax. I emailed Dr Poland, he said he was sceptical that the more recent tinnitus onset was vax induced because of the 2 year interval. Have you tried any vax detox protocols? It seems impossible not to obsess over this constant loud head noise. My GP has prescribed mirtazapine but since I have a disabled son who requires round the clock care and often doesn't sleep, I can't take a med that will make me drowsy. Trapped in a nightmare!

Oh, Lovechopin, you really have it rough! Even though none of us can offer a cure I find it helps to talk about it. What about Lorazepam to help on the worst days?

Even though I do a lot of research I haven't come across any vax detox protocols but then, haven't been looking for anything like that. I suppose they needed to be done probably immediately after the vaccination?

BTW - is your username a reference to classical music?

Yes, I'm a fan of classical music, particularly piano... Re lorezapam, is that to be taken like a beta blocker (just as and when needed, not like an antidepressant?). I have a doctor's appointment later this month so I will discuss alternative to antidepressant. I need to get to the stage where I hear the head noises but my attitude is 'so what'. How to get there though!?

Hi lovechopin how are you doing these 8 months later?

Lovechopin profile image
Lovechopin

Thanks for asking. Actually I'm mostly indifferent to the tinnitus these days. It hasn't changed, still 24/7 multiple noises in my head. Alas, the reason I'm indifferent to it is because I've developed an even more annoying affliction - a hyperawareness of my soft palate and globus sensation following a painful nasal endoscopy. Been stuck with this for 6 months. That is my focus now, not the tinnitus. Ugh!
