I've had tinnitus since I was a child had multiple operations ear infections etc Got allot worse last few years in the last 6 months I've started with Morse Code type beeping in the last 6 months driving me insane Does anyone else have this problem?. Now been refered to tinnitus clinic and getting hearing aids as my hearing really bad now too. Curious too when your hearings shot why do you hear tinnitus?

I have tinnitus on both sides, constant high pitched piercing hiss on the right and slightly less pronounced on the left. Sometimes I get a sort of broken sound on the left side with a lower tone cutting in and out from time to time which could almost be like slow morse code although I have never thought about it like that till you mentioned it. A sound engineer of all people, explained to me that if there is an imbalance in your hearing, the brain compensates for the loss by generating it's own sound to level things up. I hope the hearing aids help as I am also getting them mid February and I am hoping they make a difference. Good luck.

Hello and welcome to the British Tinnitus Association forum. Do feel free to ask any questions, I hope that you find this a helpful and supportive place to help you manage your tinnitus.

Different people hear different noises - some will hear morse code, some a kettle boiling, my own tinnitus is like a mosquito buzzing. The reason we hear it even though our hearing isn't great is that it's generated by the brain, not the ears, and the theory is that the brain is trying to compensate for the noise it's missing if you have hearing loss.
