Hello out there...

Hi everyone, I've had T for about 12 years now and it's got progressively worse to the extent that I now have high pitch screeching in both ears all of the time. It gets even louder when I'm tired and stressed. Most times I can ignore it when distracted but there are times like now when it cannot be ignored. Hopefully, one day, forums like this won't exist as we'll be tinnitus free zones! I have a theory that mine started either through over use of a Nokia mobile phone at work which used to literally burn my ears. Good to hear from fellow sufferers about what soothes your T - I love standing under running water of a shower...sheer bliss 😊

Hi Lorraine,

Overuse of the mobile could have increased your tinnitus. If there is no underlying medical problem causing it to get worse, the usual reason is "sound". Do you go to places where loud music is played: clubs, concerts including the cinema? Or work in a noisy environment? Do you listen to music through headphones even at low volume? Headphone use can make tinnitus worse for some people but not all.

It might be a good idea to get a referral to ENT for tests on your auditory system. If no problems are found, a referral to Hearing Therapist or Audiologist for tinnitus management is likely to help.

All the best

Michael

Hi Lorraine. Welcome , from someone who truly understands . I think phones and computors do contribute , massively in some cases. When I had to leave my job due partly to my tinnitus , I took up some free lance work but being on the computer too often , for lomg periods of time has contributed to mine being 24/7 hiss - I can almost feel it ' firing up' when I plug it in ( like this morning ); alas work was / is my drug so it's a circle I need to break. My audiologist also said that one of her patient's tinnitus improved considerably when she left her job at a call centre. I am accompanying my 82 year old father on a senior citizens coach trip next week for 5 days , and it will be interesting to see if no computer , and limited phone use hlpes . i will let you know . Best wiahes

I'm with you Lorraine ...standing under a hot shower with the water hammering on my head is one of the few things that 'drowns' out the infernal noise of my T. Bliss indeed. Shame I'm on a water meter! :-(
