I have chronic tinnitus and I have had it for eight years. I am on Levothyroxine for underactive thyroid , this I started four years ago. So I can't say if the Levo is causing yours. I do know that mine has got worse, and now I need a hearing aid as I have hardly any hearing in my left ear. My ears have a high pitched buzz which is continual and never goes away. It drives me mad especially at night. I was reading about a new treatment which sounds hopeful, but as yet it is only available privately and is expensive. A lot of people with thyroid problems seem to suffer from tinnitus, so I feel there may be a connection.

Hypothyroidism softens the tissues in the ears and that's what causes it. No offence but really hope I don't need a hearing aid, I'm only 26! Hopefully the medication will sort me out x

I too have tinnitus and it seemed to begin when I was really making an extensive effort with my diet and eating lots of raw foods. I bought a juicer and drank lots of fruit and vegetable juices daily, especially carrot juice. I quickly realised that the high sugar content was making the then untreated hypothyroidism worse, including the beginning of tinnitus and head pressure. So I stopped drinking the juices, in particular carrot and made a concerted effort to change my diet to exclude fruit sugars as well as all other sugar and also to concentrate on an alkaline diet.

Sometime later, I discovered that I had hypothyroidism (having gone for too many years with the ME diagnosis) and began treatment. The tinnitus has not gone completely, but it is very much better and I notice as soon as I drink or eat something with hidden sugar, it worsens. I can now eat an orange or a raw carrot, but I cannot drink lots of juice. My doctor says it is all in my head, but I think I will stick with my own observations!

No hearing aid yet!

On resting you mentioned pressure in head. I started getting a pressure in the top of my neck, bottom of skull weeks ago. It would cause dizziness as well. Since I started levothyroxine no pressure and dizziness has subsided even though I do occasionally have the odd moment still x

I have lost hearing on one side (not completely, just a bit). Have pulsing tinnitus and ringing, worse on one side. All began with hypothyroid issue but Levothyroxine hasn't helped. Wish I could find an answer to this
