Hello there - I've had these symptoms when my dose has dropped off. It was how I was originally diagnosed. You should take this to your GP. If you have autoimmune thyroiditis then it could also be a related autoimmune disease e.g. fibromyalgia or pernicious anemia which can lead to vitamin B12 deficiency, low ferritin levels/iron deficiency, vitamin D deficiency that can also result in joint aches. I'm sure there are plenty of other things that could be causing it but that's somewhere to start.

It certainly could be the hypothyroidism that's causing it. You're on a daily average dose of 37.5mcg levothyroxine, which really is quite a low dose.

How long have you been on thyroid medication? And how long on this dose?

Can you post your most recent thyroid blood test results here?

thanks for the reply, I have been on this dose now for a couple of years, I think the last time my blood test was done it was 2.2....The GP didnt seem concerned about it, but I will go back and see her, thanks again for replying!

No your GP might not be concerned about it. But she/he's not the one that's suffering :) If your GP doesn't have any ideas about what else might be causing it, then do ask to try a levothyroxine dose increase to see if it helps alleviate your symptoms. There is plenty of scope to increase the dose until your TSH is nearer the bottom of the reference range, which is what most thyroid patients need.

Hello. I have the same symptoms. I was on carbimazole 30 mg once a day for 12 days when my joints, hands and face started to swelling and it was very painful. I went to see my GP. She told me to stop taking medication and in a meantime she contacted endocrinologist. I haven't been taking carbimazole for 3 days and everything went back to normal. They gave me propylthiouracil 200 mg a day but after one day my fingers feel like before but not so swollen and less pain. So I'm sure is fault of the medication. Maybe doesn't agree with me.. Anyway I'm looking for the answers myself.
