hiya all, are there any doctors or experts who run this site or is it run by people who either have or may have thyroid problems, just wondering
doctors,: hiya all, are there any doctors or... - Thyroid UK
doctors,
There are no people with qualifications in thyroid medicine who post here - unless there are some who do not admit it!
Obviously, as in any large community, some people will have some relevant work experience and qualification - such as being a nurse. But even then, that may not be declared.
The site is technically run by HealthUnlocked and this Thyroid UK part is kept together by a core of volunteers plus some help from the tiny Thyroid UK staff.

Since many of us here know far more about thyroid issues than the average GP or even endocrinologist, I think it's fair to say that whilst we don't have 'paper medical qualifications', we undoubtedly qualify for a title such as 'Expert Patients'.
Thyroiduk.org also have a list of sympathetic doctors and some Endocrinologists. Most may be private. I think some NHS Endocrinologist are finding out from their patients that some T3 makes them feel much better.
When we answer questions, it is usually down to our own experiences which may help others who are having similar difficulties. We have had to learn the hard way that the guidelines the GP's have to use do not always make us better so therefore searched the Internet and managed to get well.
How do we get hold of this list of sympathetic doctors or endos
Thanks

List of private doctors available through Thyroid UK via their request form here thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/diagno...
It's also worth posting a question here asking if anyone knows a good NHS or private endo in your area. Sometimes people do
My GP told me my 'weight gain' had nothing to do with my thyroid issues... I wouldn't necessarily use 'doctors' and 'experts' in the same sentence!
Couldn't agree more.
Experts yes...doctors no...
Hi vikki, I hope these comments answer your question. It's natural to want to know who you are speaking to. Do you have a thyroid problem or think you might? Just asking.......
As far as i can gather this site is run by people who are far far more qualified than any doctor or endocrinologist. As we actually live with this auto immune disease.
We are not text book cases we are all individual, and our bodies require different things. But not according to many dr who havent got the foggiest. Did you know that in all the five years training they do only 3 days studying this. And yet the two biggest miss diagnosed illnesses in the western world are Thyroid disease and Diabetes. Disgraceful........
