Is Armour safe to use in pregnancy. Should I switch to it before or after?
Good chance that if the synthetic thyroxine is not working for you then you won't be able to have babies anyway. Many hypothyroid women either don't conceive or can't carry to term.
Plenty of info about this on the internet, Do a google on pregnancy and hypothyroidism.
Armour would be safer in pregancy if it gives you all the hormones you need to function properly. T4, T3, T2 and calcitonin.
Hi SleepyDumpling
My best advice would be to make sure your thyroid levels are optimal for you and that you are stable on that dose (whether thyroxine or NDT) *before* conceiving.
Looking at your earlier posts it looks like you've only been on thyroxine for a few weeks (please do correct me if I'm wrong, it's not easy looking back through posts!) and that really isn't time enough to stabilise. It can take months to get to the right level as, even if your blood levels are normal, it can take quite some time for your body to fully catch up. If you rush into trying for a baby too soon you run the risk and heartbreak of complications.
If you put 'pregnant' and/or 'pregnancy' into the search box on here you should find some useful links.
Thank Barbara. I've actually been taking thyroine for 18 months but with the addition of carbimazole. I was being treated for Graves when in fact I had had a hyper episode which is apparently common at the onset of Hashimotos. That said I've never really stabilised. Every time I get to an acceptable level something happens such as anaemia or infection. A bigissue for me is that I am nearly 46 and running out of time!
