Standards of care for thyroid patients

Hi allI was optimistic to hear a discussion about how women's health concerns are poorly received by GPs on yesterday's Vanessa Fetlz's LBC programme, under the title of medical misogyny.

I posted to ask if anyone in the community would mention the typical responses to our thyroid signs and symptoms and the care and treatment provided, to help raise public awareness of the seriousness of the problem.

Regenallotment kindly pointed out that I should tag Lyn Mynott but not having tagged anyone before, I pm'd Lyn instead. Tagging Lyn (first time ever!) now 😃

I hope that thyroid dysfunction awareness will soon become mainstream just the way menopause is, thanks of course to patient power and wonderful support groups like Thyroid UK.

Hi StPetes, I'm afraid I didn't hear the discussion. I think the response would depend on whether the person is overtly hypothyroid or have subclinical hypothyroidism.

Overt hypothyroidism gets treated far more quickly as it's clear via test results. Unfortunately, subclinical hypothyroidism is often ignored.
