Would like advice on adhd right to choose please.

I have finally gone to GP for adhd diagnosis a year ago, although I believe it is thyroid related I just want to be able to focus and reach my potential and not be so messy as I am now in my late 50s and have a daughter and would really love to have a proper career and income so we can do nice things together. Haven't been on holiday for years for example,

I did get the phone call and am waiting for referral but this could take years. I have heard of the right to choose does anyone have any advice on that please? I live in the Midlands but would be willing to go further any recommendations or advice would be great. Many thanks.

Hello my son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was at secondary school , I paid for the assessment, I was worried about the length of the waiting list and the effect on my sons exams

I got one on the nhs (was previously diagnosed in another country but medical records destroyed, long story!

Took about three years.

My GP did attempt to get me seen sooner under right to choose. The problem was that there was only one place iny catchment and the others outside of it. It ends up depending on whether or not your local nhs wants to fund sending you out of area. I got two rejections and had to wait on my area.

The other option is pay private.

Hi my son is awaiting both ADHD and Autism on RTC but it’s coming up to a year long wait now. Originally it was around 4-6 months but the system is now backing up. I do think if you’re an adult and only going for ADHD diagnosis it’s much quicker. Which seems a little frustrating while my son slips out of secondary school before his GCSEs…

Btw I had to fight with my GP to fill out the RTC form as I had the usual ‘you can’t do that’ from them. So if you decide to go down this route be firm and take the form printed out.

RTC for adult ADHD diagnosis is a minefield to be honest due to massive demand at the moment. There is a good FB group called Adult ADHD/Autism Diagnosis -Right to Choose Support - (England) that is worth joining. Good luck
