TSH okay but still super unwell

Hi, I posted a few days prior regarding my symptoms and got some really useful info. I went back to the doctors for my 6-8weekly blood test and these are my results as compared to the last lot of bloods.

Serum TSH:

July 2024 - 0.05mU/L • August - 7.12mU/L (Range 0.30 - 4.20)

Serum Free T4:

July 2024 - 13.1pmol\L • August - 14.6pmol/L (Range 9.0 - 19.0)

Please let me know if any other results are required, these are just those from my Thyroid Function test.

Doctor has advised my levels have come into range now which is good news however I am still suffering from sickness & diarrhoea mainly through the night. I am predominantly only bringing up liquid, very rarely will I bring up any food even if I’d eaten only half an hour before vomiting. Without being tmi, my stools are also just pure liquid.

Have been advised to ask for testing to check vitamins (ferrite etc?) Is this still something I should do? Asking simply because I am clueless and don’t know if my most recent bloodwork changes anything but I doubt it.

My Carbimazole dosage has been lowered from 10mg to 5mg once daily, propanalol as and when i need it but this doesn’t help with the sickness so I rarely take it. Thankfully now, the only symptom I have is the sickness & sweats. Confused as to what’s making me sick! Any ideas?

Thanks so much 😊

This doesn't look or sound right to me but I shall flag it up for the more knowledgeable ones to respond

Sorry, not in a terrible way just beyond my knowledge as I'm a hypo🤗

I've found since starting on T4 food intolerances are a big thing, I can no longer tolerate dairy, nightshade and high histamine foods, have you tried keeping a food diary to see what you have eaten on the better or worse days?

Hi, that’s very interesting you mentioning histamine as I’ve been wondering if that causes me problems. I have Hashi, I’m also dairy, gluten, soya, alcohol free but suffer constantly from sore throats (along with many other symptoms) and I’ve started to wonder as I keep a food diary and tomatoes (nightshades) and histamine foods are looking like triggers…. It’s becoming a rather restricted diet 🙃

Histamine is a real sneaky one as some days you get away with something like an avocado and other days it totally floors you... I can't do any nightshade... potato (potato starch is added to lots of things), peppers, tomato and beware ashwagandha.

Gluten is ok it's just barley especially malted that gets me also amaranth oh and legumes 🙄 Life is so much better without these though

Thank you, yes now that make more sense too as Avocado can feel like it’s burning my throat 🤔 hummm going to take these out fully now I think, determined to feel good but it’s quite a battle isn’t it. Thank you again

TiggerMe barley and malted barley are my big demons too. Glad it's not just me!

Oh no worries, I understand!

I literally decided 2 days ago to keep track of what i’m eating yes 😊 Hoping this helps me understand a little better x

Hey there again :

The TSH does not cause any symptoms and has no bearing on your level of wellness.

Your thyroid hormones are now back in range and your T4 now around 41% through it's range - so you don't want this falling any lower as otherwise you'll start to suffer symptoms of hypothyroidism.

So the AT drug has been reduced down and hopefully your T3 and T4 will level out now at around 50% through the ranges.

Hopefully the sickness you have been suffering now eases off :

Yes - you need your ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D blood tests run as if low in their ranges these can compound your health further than necessary -

your doctor should be able to run these for you.

Hi, have you had any change in your meds such as a different brand? I was recently given a different brand of levothyroxine and rendered with horrible stomach cramps and diarrhoea for about 4 weeks when I stopped taking it. I know it's a different med to yours but just a thought.

No i’ve always had the same brand! 😊 plus these are symptoms that led to me going to my doctor and finding out I had hyperthyroidism! Thankyou though xx

Sorry but I thought you had already asked about being tested for celiac and pernicious anemia - and these need testing for when not limiting your food choices.

So - another doctors appointment to get your vitamins and minerals run as previously suggested and these other 2 AI diseases that can have occurred as it is quite common when with 1 AI disease that may have triggers ' others ' -

and It's not right that you are continually sick as previously replied -

a loose bowel is Graves but I've never heard of this continual sickness being a symptom -

I know there is a first time for everything but think it's time to look at this again - as if it hasn't eased at all this needs looking at and apart from anything else it must leave you nervous, anxious and totally exhausted.

Hi - just a thought but as well as being hyper I have Coeliac disease. Don't just go gluten free - ask GP to do blood test for Coeliac. Main symptoms are diarrhoea and/or vomiting after injesting wheat, barley or rye. Hugs 🤗

It’s starting to sound like this may be the case?? Thankyou so much ☺️ xx

Is it perhaps useful to ask your GP to consider these awful symptoms you are having outside of the Thyroid context? That is, to think about other causes and test for other things outside of TSH. You dont want to miss something because the focus for Graves patients is so often on thyroid stuff to the exclusion of all else. I hope you feel better soon. xx

Yes this was my concern but my doctor is just as concerned it may be something else now since my bloods have come back and i’m in range now! I’m going to book another set of tests for the above vitamins, start keeping a food diary and hopefully start ruling things out one by one xx
