Advice on taking thyroid meds and osteoporosis please....

After 2 years of being in denial that I could possibly need to take alendronic acid to slow down the osteoporosis which my bone density scan picked up I have agreed to start taking it. Does anyone have advice on how to fit this in with taking thyroid meds (I take 75mg levothyroxine and 5mg liothyrinine an hour before breakfast)? I also take a second dose of 5mg lio at bedtime. I have tried taking the levo at bedtime but that definitely didn't work for me. I'm also wondering if anyone had the P1NP bone marker tests before starting the medication? My endo said it's essential (he's also an osteporosis expert) but the GP says they can't request it.

Thanks as always for the amazing advice.

What are your most recent TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 results

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

T3 ….day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day, with last dose approximately 8-12 hours before test

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine

Also what vitamin supplements are you taking

What are most recent vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Are you on gluten or dairy free diet

Osteoporosis can be linked to LOW Ft3

Also low iron

Thanks SlowDragon. Results are ok. Some room for improvement but I feel well. But I’m keen to know if taking alendronic acid once a week could affect the efficacy of thyroid meds if both are taken early morning.

Tsh 0.03

T3 5.1 (3:8-6.8)

T4 12.2(7.5-21.1)

I’m gluten free and take vit D, multi B vit, magnesium and vit K2

Hasn't your Endo done the P1NP tests?

My bone health monitoring is done by Metabolic Sciences, after referral from my Endo.

Thanks Mmaud. No he hasn’t as he said tgis when I was first diagnosed two years ago and I haven’t seen him since. I could go back and ask but it was a private appointment so would cost! Is yours done through the NHS if you don’t mind me asking?
