confusing results

I have been in thyroid for 50 years. My TSH has always been abnormally low (.09) while all other tests in the low normal range. I am also, asymptomatic when it comes to any issues relating to too much meds and have never had any other illnesses. I feel good and have lived like this for. 50 years.

Can Anyone explain this? My doctors and are always in a headlock over this.

Good and interesting that you are OK.

Looking at your posts from a few years ago you take T3 and T4(levo)

Can you advise how long you haven been taking both and for how long ?

Taking T3 means TSH will run very low as I understand it. I have been doing this for a year now.

The experts on here will want to see what your T3 and T4 blood results are and what the ranges are for these blood tests.

I would be very interested to know what causes TSH to be so low as I have this problem too. My TSH became what I think is called suppressed at 0.05 shortly after I started taking thyroxine and has remained like this for more than 20 years. Some years ago an endocrinologist reduced my thyroxine so much that I became very ill and my TSH still didn't change. It can be a real issue when a GP picks up on it as being a problem! I'm currently on T4 and T3 and feel under-medicated. GP refused to increase and has requested blood tests. I have heard that NHS labs only test for TSH now, so that could create a problem for me.

I have had Hashimoto's for over 20 years now and my TSH has been consistently suppressed (around 0.07). My T3 is in the upper 75% and my T4 is nearly at 100% through the range and sometimes over. I am on 100 mcg levothyroxine (T4) only. Feel good on this dose with no ill effects whatsoever.

Tried to lower dose to 75mcg on advice from GP regarding suppressed TSH for about 2 months (bad choice!) and felt absolutely ill, but myTSH never moved up. Went back to 100 mcg and felt fine again after about 6 months. I have no issues at all with my suppressed TSH and will fight teeth and claws to stay on this dose. I test my thyroid hormones myself once a year and send in the results with the note that I will not change my meds (well unless the results would tell me otherwise of course). They seem to accept it now.

I think if you supplement with T3, the TSH tends to get suppressed, which the GPs do not like. Some people seem to react to replacement therapy more strongly with a suppressed or very low TSH. But in my view, all that matters is how you feel in yourself, as everyone is different and no one size fits all! :-)
