NICE now restrict Hypothyroid monitoring to TSH only to cut costs and work. Our old standby - Dr. Anthiny Toft's book, 'Understanding Thyroid Disease' - states it should be monitored by TSH and T4. I am not happy with this new rule. What do you think?
This will enable the prescribing of many pills and potions for the symptoms of an undiagnosed thyroid - also an under medicated thyroid. Guess the AI docs are already programmed accordingly ! (Earlier post )
Heaven help us when AI starts on our medical data. I like to look at Pinterest - a few weeks ago I got very pointed, prim reprimand telling me that something had been removed from my site for something like ‘sexual / other unsuitable content’ saved under ‘Chocolate Brownies, yes, I do save chocolate brownie recipes! They included a one off link to show what they were referring to. I clicked on and it was a watercolour of a trees in a Tuscan landscape.
So I protested - my protest was overruled and I was still in disgrace. I kept going (I was incensed) and found where I could contact a human and pointed out that I was a 75 year old lady they only needed to take a look at the sort of stuff I was saving - patchwork, recipes, gluten free recipes, watercolour / acrylic painting, sketchbooks, house plants etc, etc to name but a few to realise that I was certainly not collecting porn of any sort.
So heaven help us when the AI robot takes over interpretation of our medical data.
Wonder how long it will be before we can’t even get an appointment with the robot 😉
That's the problem - AI cancels based on programmed words. It seems you strayed into race territory (other) with chocolate brownies. We need saving from this tyranny before we are all cancelled ....
Yes, privatisation by stealth. There is a campaigning organisation that is currently researching with the intention of exposing all the privatisation measures throughout the UK. It's scary.
Been hard persuading labs and Gps to do more than TSH for a long time. Though there are some variations across the four nstions and within each of the nations.
Official NICE and NHS Hypothyroidism guidelines
These guidelines are the NHS England national documents. There are likely to be numerous other more local guidelines.

NICE guideline [NG145] Published: 20 November 2019 Last updated: 12 October 2023
I thought it was just my surgery only measuring TSH so this is a revelation. Last time this happened I told them (in a jokey way) that I was not going through the hassle of a blood test if they were only measuring TSH.
I always complain about just getting a TSH result. It’s usually done in the afternoon in my surgery. I am worn out telling them it’s not a good time to take a TSH reading and therefore it’s worse than useless, especially as they have been instructed (and the labs too) that nothing else thyroid is checked. Honestly I am thinking the same as you. It’s a waste of resources and a waste of my time. I only go along with it to get along and I am about to run out of road on that one soon.
It’s nice and neat for the surgery though. Box ticked. Money ‘saved’. What’s not to like from their perspective? The fact it’s useless is unquestioned.
