fasting and worried

I have just started fasting for Ramadam and am a bit worried that like when dieting eating less will reduce my metabalism and lead to weight gain when I start eating more again. Am I right in thinking that wont happen now I am on a good dose of thyroid hormones?

I came across this recently, and found it pretty balanced:

palomahealth.com/learn/hypo...

I’d also say, from my experience in tracking my food for various reasons over the years - from marathon training to tracking my iron intake- there’s one point in the article that resonated.

When you break your fast, it will be way easier for you to take in more than your average daily calories than you think. If I got busy and skipped breakfast and lunch, I found myself easily making up for it. This would happen mostly with calorie dense food. Like, I’d think well I didn’t eat all day, I’ll just treat myself to ONE cookie. Well.. even one cookie, or a half a donut… or even a handful of cashews - tons of calories in small portions!

So, since - as I understand it - you do break fast once in a 24 hour period, then as long as you don’t eat way too little or way to much more than average, then - in my experience - it balances out.

Since you’re still eating, just with periods of fasting within the day, you should be able to manage not significantly reducing (or increasing) your daily calories .

I can't better the first reply on this, except to say I've started to do a 24 hour fast once a week and I've been fine. So long as you break your fast with something tasty and nutritious you'll be fine.
