Yuka App and endocrine disrupter ingredients

I was discussing food chains and ingredients with A Level students during tutorial today, talking about Dr Amy Shah’s podcast and their thoughts on ingredients in what we eat and use.

They told me about the Yuka App, you scan the barcodes on your cosmetics, it RAG (red amber green) rates the ingredients, explains the concerns about some ingredients, provides the links to the papers with the studies that raise the concerns.

I’ve scanned the contents my cosmetics drawer and oh my goodness for a yogurt knitting, green and eco person I have some horrors hiding in there. This image is just one ingredient in my Aldi face cream…. Look what it says about thyroid. I’ve been using this product for around around 10-15 years.

Blimey…. Thank goodness for switched on young people, I’m so grateful to them 🌱

I stick to Green People, Dr Hauschka, Faith in Nature but I’m still going to check on the app you’ve found as I’ve been caught out before. Cleaning products too, horrendous ingredients in some. Thanks for telling us about the app & Aldi 🤢 nasty

Yup, that's why I don't use any cosmetic products - and as few cleaning products as possible! But, it's true, we can learn an awful lot from the young! :)

I've not come across yogurt knitting before - it must be a bit messy :)

As a geriatric, my first thought was Bravo youngsters, there's hope for humanity yet :)

More than 2 decades ago I started using Pharma Nord skin cream - it had CoQ10 in it and I must say my face appreciated the product BUT despite living in a very sunny place, my face never went brown and it wasn't until some years later I discovered one of the other ingredient included evil sun screen!

After that I completely abandoned cosmetics and now only use (what used to be) a very good product from Neal's Yard but I think they got purchased by some private equity company and the quality of their ingredients (in my view) has gone way down.

We all make "mistakes" - how else do we learn? :)

Might help explain why so many more women than men get all this going on. However as we know lots and lots of endocrine disrupters around. It would seem nearly all of our own making! Human that is.

I think jimh111 has a website that is full of info on this topic (I'm sorry I don't recall the name).

One a "personal" level I feel we are all "architects of our own downfall"(because we don't/didn't know x,y,z) but further up there are the various other "architects" (BigAg et all) who know exactly what they are doing, and they don't give a damn.

I don't have many apps but that one seems like it could be worthwhile! Thanks Regenallotment

I'm using Evolve Organic, after your aldi product the price will probably make you faint but I believe it's cleaner and my skin likes it - haven't yet checked it with the app though!

I downloaded this app after seeing your post, Regen and I'm absolutely horrified!

Literally everything in our bathroom will be replaced as we go because it's ALL rated poorly and full of harmful or hazardous additives.

I don't understand how it's allowed to happen. 🤷🏻‍♀️
