Amino Acids and Thyroid Health

Could anyone please share their thoughts and experiences on supplimenting amino acids?

I came across an interesting article (I hope it's ok to share?).

inside-health.online/the-mi...

It turned out to be a sales pitch but if there's truth in it then £5 a week would be so worth it.

Any tried and tested product suggestions are always welcome. Many thanks 😊

I've been taking a full spectrum amino acid for the last year or so, as I struggle to eat enough protein due in main to a histamine intolerance, they have really helped and it stops me risking eating foods that I can't tolerate, also organic meat is becoming unaffordable and with digestive issues I'm probably not getting the full benefit anyway...

amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07...

edit... I've now read the article... very good, I must have read something similar when I sought out amino acids though I opted for the full spectrum as not convinced at the time my body was capable of creating anything out of the raw materials!

6 months ago I had a blood test with raised liver enzymes ALT & ALP they had been on the rise since starting T3 and at the same time I had done an OAT test which flagged up low glutathione (and a few other things).... I researched and added in L-Acetyl L-Glutathione 100mg

I had also previously done a DNA thyroid health test which flagged up I'm likely to under produce glutathione

Just had my latest results and both ALT & ALP are back to mid range 😅 also my albumin level is up to mid range having been low

The product this article is supporting doesn't actually give any details about amounts of each amino acid so it is hard to compare but it says 4g protein per scoop where as 1 tablet = 750mg ish

I tried to open the link to the product - it briefly appeared and disappeared - I tried with another browser and the same thing happened. I did find this however:

"Saw this online And thought I would try it. Ordered and they took the money but never dispatched the items despite saying they post within 24 hours. Tried contacting their chat which just said it would email me, went on next day and the chat system had been removed. Emailed them directly and never heard back. Scam website, had to get my bank to refund me."

I used Dr's Best SAM-e for a number of years - I found it excellent. The only caveat against use (as far as I am aware) was that it should not be used by people who take Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) - they were one of the earlier types of antidepressant before SSRI's were invented.

It's a pricey supplement, and not always available, but my experience was that it was worth every penny and pre-Brexit rules, it was very good value.

Formulated with Disulfate Tosylate

Doctor's Best utilizes only the highest quality Italian Soloesse® SAM-e providing slow and targeted release for improved GI tolerance and absorption. Our Double-Strength SAM-e 400 contains 400 mg of active Soloesse® SAM-e in each tablet. This ensures that you receive the most potent SAM-e product with the highest percentage of the active S,S form per serving.

Doctor's Best SAM-e helps replenish your SAM-e levels and promote a healthy mood.* SAM-e (S-Adenosyl-L-Methionine) is naturally produced by your body and helps maintain healthy emotions. Various factors such as diet and aging can cause low levels of SAM-e, leaving you feeling unbalanced and moody.

Supplementing with SAM-e

Soloesse® Italian SAM-e is processed to yield the highest available percentage of the active pure S,S form which helps mediate bio-chemical activity in the human body.

SAM-e and Mood and Cognitive Function

SAM-e helps facilitate DNA enzymatic actions. These enzymatic actions are required for the healthy conversion of neurotransmitters responsible for healthy emotions, such as serotonin and dopamine. SAM-e also facilitates glutathione usage which improves the body's antioxidant defense and helps maintain acetylcholine levels necessary for cognitive function.

SAM-e and Joint Function

In clinical trials, SAM-e has been shown to help increase joint comfort and mobility by promoting the synthesis of proteoglycans, essential components of connective tissue.

SAM-e and Liver Function

SAM-e helps support healthy levels of glutathione, a critical antioxidant which helps protect against free radicals. SAM-e acts as a methyl donor in the synthesis and formation of phosphatidylcholine and L-cysteine, both necessary for maintaining liver health."

I tried SAMe for 3 months... no effect, it does seem to depend on your DNA whether some things work or not 🙃

Was the SAM-e you used both pharmaceutical grade and enteric coated?

It was the Doctors Best double strength 400mg one that you mentioned 🤷‍♀️

I fibbed it was 2 months in a pack 🙃

I think it might have been radd that explained it depends why way your system is biased as to which route works?

Thanks - I'm sorry it didn't work for you :(

I've just read your reply to the OP - maybe Histamine Intolerance is a reason it didn't help you.

For me I believe it is related to how we methylate, the SAM-e acts a great methyl donor to assist that cycle work well.

Certainly not everything works for everyone.

I started taking a free (predigested) amino acid supplement a few years ago when I was losing so much weight due to inability to digest anything, and struggling with histamine and food intolerances. I still use a small amount. Wasn't aware that there was a thyroid connection but it makes sense. I use Allergy Research Group/Nutricology Free Aminos because they are completely grain free in production (but not cheap!). I also use a detox aid with glutathione and take NAC as precursor (have a glutathione-absent gene). Cheers

Thank you for posting this, it's making me reflect on my own food intolerances and histamine issues plus 10 months of bladder pain that is still ongoing. They all turned up following a severe stomach infection, h pylori and very low in range FT3 and FT4 for 2 years after stopping dessicated thyroid and replacing with T3/T4 combo under an NHS endo. I'll look into amino acids. Thanks again.

Sounds like those might be at least partly from a gut bacteria imbalance then. Best wishes

That is so interesting you have brought this up, also just clicked on that article on IG and read it. Hence came onto this site to see what you all thought about the amino acid connection. Not good that it seems to be a scam but the info was interesting, another thing to look into.
