Exercise intolerant

I've been experiencing heavy sweating while exercising and total exhaustion the next day. I felt this why before I was diagnosed ten years ago with low thyroid. I had to stop any form of exercise. I am on HRT too and last year had the same symptoms. My HRT gel was increased and this sorted out the problem I could exercise and no problems after . Now I have all the symptoms again heavy sweating while exercising brain fog headaches tired weak forgetful dry eyes the list goes on !!! My bloods for thyroid levels says it's fine . I think that my dose needs to be increased,I am on 75mg which I have been on for years now I'm 57. Can anyone please help I'm feeling so unwellThanks

welcome to the forum

My bloods for thyroid levels says it's fine .

Can you add actual results

ALWAYS test thyroid levels early morning and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Do you always get same brand Levo at each prescription

Is your hypothyroidism autoimmune

Approximately how much do you weigh in kilo

For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested

Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once to see if your hypothyroidism is autoimmune

Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high TPO and/or high TG thyroid antibodies

Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s

Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.

Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.

Significant minority of Hashimoto’s patients only have high TG antibodies (thyroglobulin)

20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis

In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)

Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Testing options and includes money off codes for private testing

Medichecks Thyroid plus BOTH TPO and TG antibodies and vitamins

Blue Horizon Thyroid Premium Gold includes BOTH TPO and TG antibodies, cortisol and vitamins

Only do private testing early Monday or Tuesday morning.

Hi

Putting my results here not sure how to do them !

Thyroid function test TSH

0.96 ml/ Ul. 0.27-4.20mlu/L

Serum TSH T4.

16.6 PMOLl/L. 11.90 - 21.60pmol/L

SERUM T3

3.7 PMOL/L 3.10- 6.80PMOLL

Thyroid autoantibodies

65 gL. 63.00-83.00gl

was test done early morning, ideally before 9am, only drinking water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Free T4 (fT4) 16.6 pmol/L (11.9 - 21.6) 48.5%

Free T3 (fT3) 3.7 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8) 16.2%

These results show you are not on high enough dose levothyroxine

Aiming for Ft4 (levothyroxine) at least 60-70% through range

You need immediate 25mcg dose increase in levothyroxine

Currently extremely poor Ft3 level

Highly likely very low vitamin levels

ESSENTIAL to test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin

Thyroid antibodies confirms autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto’s as cause of your hypothyroidism

You can’t rush things

how long have you been on just 50mcg

Go back to 75mcg

Which brand is this?

Wait 6-8 weeks

Retest correctly

Meanwhile get vitamin levels tested and start improving to optimal levels

Braveheart77 profile image
Braveheart77 in reply toSlowDragon

I will go back to 75mg I'm going to go private as I don't trust my doctors

Braveheart77 profile image
Braveheart77 in reply toBraveheart77

I can't wait that long ..they left me two half years undiagnosed before I was treated im scared for my health

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply toBraveheart77

So how many days have you been on only 50mcg

Braveheart77 profile image
Braveheart77 in reply toSlowDragon

I think around 5,weeks the brand is two different types ...I have asked GP for years to keep me on the same brand each time as I think different brands affect me they never do the chemist! Wockhardt and mercuryPharma

Hypo and menopause aren’t a great combo . I’m similar age up you , private endo tests showed my T3 is low , not great conversion . And despite being on HRT , my Estradiol is low . So you may need a tweak to both medications and getting a balance is difficult . Much more wiser people than me on here who would be able to comment if you have blood results .

Adding Testosterone to the HRT mix (once sure thyroid levels really are good, rather than what g.p. surgery tell you), has made a huge difference to me with recovery from exercise

My first sign that my T3 was too low was if I exercised I got a migraine and my legs wouldn’t worked properly the day after. Very low energy and strength after exercise. I didn’t realise at the time what was going on until I found this site. After getting a full thyroid blood check TSH, t4 and t3 my t3 was right at the bottom of the range and t4 at the top. I’m a very poor converter. I had to go private and was prescribed T3 plus my usual T4 meds as soon as I was taking T3 all my symptoms went away. So, have you checked your T3 level if not please do You’ll need to do it privately through monitor my health on line as NHS mostly don’t test it

Hi can I ask you who did you see privately? Thank you

Braveheart77 profile image
Braveheart77 in reply toBraveheart77

Also my T3 is very low I've had all the blood tests already just looking for a private doctor now that would be great 👍🏽

McPammy profile image
McPammy in reply toBraveheart77

I went private as the NHS was useless. I was sent down blind alleys by the NHS. Just sending me anywhere as they didn’t want to prescribe T3 dedication even though test result was screaming I needed it. I found a brilliant private only endocrinologist through this forum. I’ve sent you details on a private message we can’t mention names on the open forum

I'm 99% sure I'm post menopause, similar age and on hrt. I tried for years to exercise, joining gyms only to give up after a month. I'm on t3 only and I just didn't have the energy or if I did i would crash an hour or so afterwards.Only when I was prescribed testosterone on top of oestrogen and progesterone did I have increased energy and have now been resistance training for over a year. I don't think my T3 is optimal at the moment but i'm still managing to train without crashing. Testosterone doesn't work for everyone but I'm wondering if there could be a link if you have thyroid issues and low testosterone then replacement works really well, it did for me.

Thank you so much I was actually thinking about Testosterone maybe what I need . Thank you so much for your reply I really am feeling unwell. I appreciate your help .

Testosterone can have lots of benefits. For me it was increased energy, no more aches and pains, no brain fog, happier, calmer and a general well-being feeling. I do feel it has helped play a part in supporting my thyroid in someway as all the above can be how you feel when not sufficiently medicated too

sparkly in reply toBraveheart77

When you want to pm someone you just click on there name/profile photo and that brings up the ability to send message when press chat button. Also you can see someone's bio and there question/ answer history. Also if you are not directly answering back to someone directly don't press the reply button to answer just post at bottom. Otherwise and everyone else helping could miss your question.

Hope that's not too confusing as I'm rubbish at explaining things..my memory problems 🤦🏼‍♀️
