How soon after a brand change should labs be rechecked for hypothyroidism.
Severe exhaustion : How soon after a brand change... - Thyroid UK
Severe exhaustion
Hello Dryski :
I'm not sure a brand change constitutes a follow up blood test on the NHS.
If your dose is changed - it's generally suggested this needs a follow up blood test after around a 6-8 week period on the new dose.
But if you feel unwell - I'd just get an appointment with your doctor to discuss whatever is going on and a blood test may well be suggested as part of the conversation :
Blood tests are just one aspect of one's health care and tend to run a couple of weeks behind symptoms being experienced.
Bloods should be retested 6-8 weeks after each dose change or brand change in levothyroxine
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested
Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once
Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum
How much levothyroxine are you taking
You might just need dose increase
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
