Testing when taking Liothyronine

After taking Liothyronine how long is the optimum time to wait before testing?

At least 6 weeks on a steady dose.

12 hours after the last T3 dose

At 9am

At least an hour away from all food and drinks.

Test 6-8 weeks after any dose or brand change in levothyroxine or T3

Are you on levothyroxine plus T3 or just T3

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

On T3 - day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day with last dose 8-12 hours before test

very important to regularly test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 as well
