Hi all, I had a partial thyroidectomy in 2021 for papillary thyroid cancer follicular variant. Had surveillance scan September last year, all good. Had another scan this week, there is a 1cm growth on the left side which I had removed, also increased vascularity . I have multinodular goiter and thyroditis. Anyone experience a growth after partial thyroidectomy?
Thanks for reading 🙂

I had a patial thyroidectomy many years ago and when the biopsy showed cancer, they removed the rest and gave further treatment, well over 10 years later, I am still cancer free.
There are two main types of thyroid cancer, papillary and follicular. Follicular cancer may include a variant called Hurthle cell. There are additional less common types of Thyroid cancer.
In my experience recommended treatment is total removal, radioiodine treatment to destroy any residue thyroid cells and higher dose Levothyroxine to stop regrowth. What has the surgeon said?
Have a look at Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust website.
Thanks for your reply annsandell. I’ve never taken Levothyroxine, bloods have been in range since partial thyroidectomy. I have been referred back to surgeon so hopefully hear from him next week. Thanks I will have a look at the website.
I had a thyroidectomy but no growth after. Here in France they always remove the whole gland to avoid it. No partials. You will need more treatment possibly.
Many of the US top docs will be presenting from basics to advanced thyroid cancers. Last year many of you from the UK and Europe braved the time zone changes to attend online. This year is both online and in person and it’s free.
