problem with medication

MercuryPharma is the only medication that works mildly and gently on my body! A great problem in getting this prescription from chemist. Always maintaining there is no difference between brands …. But there is, and they aren’t truthful. Only interest dispensing what chemist has in stock! No regard to the ill effects one suffers! I often wonder how many people are suffering in silence …. Without a voice and are taken advantage of with grave consequences!

There are usually a few different chemists to choose from in most areas. I find that independent pharmacies are better than the chains for getting what I need as they can access a wider range of wholesalers.

Have you tried shopping around?

Government guidelines for GP in support of patients if you find it difficult/impossible to change brands

gov.uk/drug-safety-update/l...

If a patient reports persistent symptoms when switching between different levothyroxine tablet formulations, consider consistently prescribing a specific product known to be well tolerated by the patient

academic.oup.com/jcem/artic...

Physicians should: 1) alert patients that preparations may be switched at the pharmacy; 2) encourage patients to ask to remain on the same preparation at every pharmacy refill; and 3) make sure patients understand the need to have their TSH retested and the potential for dosing readjusted every time their LT4 preparation is switched (18).

Request GP specify brand of levothyroxine on all future prescriptions

Mercury Pharma also boxed as Eltroxin.

Both often listed by company name on pharmacy database - Advanz

you may still need to try several pharmacies

Small independent pharmacies often more helpful

How GP should write prescription to specify brand levothyroxine

Ask your GP surgery’s medication manager to stipulate your brand ‘Mercury Pharma’ on your prescription. This way the pharmacy must provide that brand. It’s a simple phone call away to the medication manager. If you have patients access you can also put this text in your repeat request. If you haven’t got patient access then request that too.
