Endocrine Society contact

There is a bit of good news that I can pass on today. Our team leader Rudolf Hoermann has been approached by the Endocrine Society to fully explain our model of thyroid function control in health and disease and have asked some very pertinent questions to which we gave comprehensive answers. The Endocrine Society is no small entity. It is based in Washington DC but has many clinicians from elsewhere in its membership. This is now putting our concept on a par with Bianco's and extends the concept. Publicity like this is essential to overcome national barriers to new thinking.

Its CV is as follows

We are a global community 18,000 strong energized by the promise of unraveling the mysteries of hormone disorders to care for patients and cure disease.

We are devoted to advancing hormone research, excellence in the clinical practice of endocrinology, broadening understanding of the critical role hormones play in health, and advocating on behalf of the global endocrinology community.

That is most excellent news.

One of the first things I read when getting involved with thyroid issues was that research to patient takes 17 years. And that was (in context) very obviously the simple things...

I really hope they break all records in changing their polices, guidance, education, etc.

In "olden" times, messages of studies in one country were slow to reach others but nowadays the world can see them in a flash of pressing buttons. This should liven things up a little more.

Without the internet I would most likely now be dead!

It's all out there so lack of knowlege amongst medics is no excuse.

So now I know how long I have to wait to even see a glimmer of change in the treatment options for Graves Disease and RAI removed as an option.

I think diogenes is right - things have changed a lot.

Whereas when I started, availability of online access to things was still fragmentary, and real paper journals were being produced, that is no longer the case.

Why, we even see papers being discussed in depth while in their pre-publication state!

Still has to get into heads, convince minds and then be implemented. But the difference is astonishing.

It's hard to glean any benefits from Covid, but the need to ramp up the research and publication cycles has had a huge impact.

Your last sentence says it all - but it does seem as though we face a Mount Everest in all aspects of mainstream medical.

Well that is amazing but so well deserved :

It's just alarming that it's taken so long for anything to happen - whilst we try and understand and follow through we are met with brick walls :

At the very least you will be able to talk to people who may have some clout rather than keep getting sidelined.

If the Endocrine Society is true to its mission statement then it only makes sense for them to pay attention to your team's research. Let us hope this is an important step toward getting your work recognised and advancing excellence in the clinical practice of endocrinology.

Well done and thank you!

WOOOP! good work 👏 I live in hope that your work and the coverage/networking/sharing with organisations like this mean those that come after us have an easier time of it. It has been said before but without this forum I'd be very unwell by now. 🌱🦋🌱

Many thanks to you all!

This is really exciting news and a very promising development from many shared and mutual perspectives! I won’t yet dare to suggest we might be approaching a panacea moment as we have had a few false dawns for Thyroid and other Endocrine and/or Hormone imbalances, diagnostics and treatments but this news has the potential to shine new lights in places where the sun hasn’t shone for a long time.

I hope that this is taken up by the broader church of patients groups and the more enlightened practitioners in the thyroid and endocrine community and that finally all the advocacy on behalf of long suffering patients gains traction in the medical profession to embrace the complexity of hormone replacement treatments and tailored to patients symptoms and their individual requirements.

Muchas Gracias to Diogenes, Rudolf and the team behind these new and emerging insights into thyroid function controls in both health and disease.

Really good news and sincere thanks to all who worked so hard to bring their research to the attention of the Endocrine Society. Let's hope it doesn't take too many years for things to improve with respect to diagnosis and treatment of thyroid patients.
