I have just got my Medicheks results back and again they show the usual problem of low ferritin at 65. I have been confused about the relationship to my serum iron result earlier in the year which was top of the range at 25.5 (top of range 26).
However I have just read an article explaining that this is often quite common to see and it means one needs to supplement iron but in an absorbable form.
I do have practically all the symptoms of low iron as I have ME with all its complications and for the past week have been feeling like death with bronchitis and not be out of the house for a week, just laying down all the time.
Can someone please advise what is the best type of iron supplement to take that won't give me horrendous constipation which I have a tendency towards anyway.
I would be very grateful for any help.
Pam

Can you explain what is meant by "an absorbable form".
Both heme and non-heme iron are absorbable with heme iron, derived from hemoglobin and myoglobin of animal food sources (meat, seafood, poultry), said to be the most easily absorbable form
As your serum iron is at the top of it's range it would probably be unwise to supplement with iron as it will take your serum iron level above range.
When serum iron and saturation are at good levels but ferritin is low, it's advised here that you can help raise your level by eating liver regularly, maximum 200g per week due to it's high Vit A content, also liver pate, black pudding, and including lots of iron rich foods in your diet
